    Ricoh 8002 Postscript

    Hi

I was going to write on my last thread but felt it may get lost.

I had to fit a Postscript SD card to the machine today and I am suppose to transfer it to another SD card, I assume in slot A. The thing is I didn't have a spare SD card and there was not one in the machine so I left the SD card with the Postscript 3 on it and it all seems to work fine.

Is this ok? IS the card fine like on the older machines (6501 etc) Why have Ricoh decided to give this as an option, you can't re use the postscript SD card again as it copies over the Authorisation so won't work again unless you upload it back to the card?

    Thanks

    Tim

Because you do not have any other SD Card accessory options on the machine leave the PS3 SD Card in the Upper Slot. You won't need to worry about it now until you need to do your first Firmware update (then you will need the Lower Slot for your firmware update). The PSG shows the PS3 SD Card in Slot 1.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. At the moment it is in the bottom slot. Will it work the same in the top one then?

Not it sure I have the most up to date firmware, on 1.09 at the mo so will have a look.

      Thanks.

      Tim.

Postscript card should work in either slot. If you later need to add other options that is when you will need to move the application to another card. Which application you move with most new machines does not matter. Older machines the licensing required that the Postscript app not be moved. Other apps had to be moved to the Postscript card. The bottom slot is usually reserved for firmware updating and JAVA.

The PostScript card, as well as Java cards, are licensed, and therefore must remain in the machine in order to be functional.

if you attempt to move either of them to a different card, you will not like the results.

Even the printer option SD card (on models so equipped) can be moved, just not PostScript or Java.

Most of the newer models have the licensed portion of Postscript embedded on the controller along with the PDF direct print. On these models, Postscript can be moved. Some models also now have embedded JAVA and no SC card is required.
