BK 5010 (groan)

Anyone have any of these in the field? I only have one right now but my end user hates it with a passion. It doesn't get a ton of use, but it seems like every time he uses it there is an issue of some kind.

This last time it's got a BK-004 error. I've replaced the sensor, with no change, and now have PCB C on order and am afraid it's going to need the firmware updated. I didn't see anything in the manual and the drawing looks like a serial port. Anyone know what connector I need on my laptop to run the .exe file for the firmware update?
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.
Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.
Michael Bolton: You and me both, man. That thing is lucky I'm not armed.

Cobi, the firmware updates for the BK5010 are made with a special cable that connects to:
1. Switch Off the Main Power Switch on the Booklet maker.
2. Connect the Download cable between the computer's COM port to J10 on the MD6DC PCB in the BF5010.
NOTE: If your Laptop does not have a COM port, use an USB converter: Purchase locally
3. Select the Comport that the Download cable is connected to.
NOTE: If you Exit the Software loading program and Start it again with the Download cable connected, the comport that the Download cable is connected to will automatically be detected. It is indicated by an arrow (i.e. COM1 <-- ).
4. Select Baudrate. Default Baudrate is 9600.
5. Click on the NEXT button.
If you need the firmware I´ll get it for you.

Problematic has never done things that make sense. The best thing to do is slap the sales weasel who sold it to the customer in the first place.
If the 5010 is like the old SR90, then the best thing to do is always run it offline, and if you get it working the way it's supposed to, make sure the customer knows not to shut it off for any reason. It will run right for quite a while if it stays powered on.
Good luck!

Thats funny.
Reminds me of the Apeco Dial-a-jam. an old roll fed, wet toner from the 70's.

Plockmatic is a good solution for people to make books while the machine runs other copies, it works independent of the machine if needed. Its not that bad.

Thanks Paul. I knew it was updated with a special cable, I just couldn't find where it said what it was. I can get the firmware, but thanks for the offer. I will have to order a cable if it isn't compatible with what's in the machine, but it's down anyway so that can wait for another day.

Each application software update starts with what connector you have to plugg it into and what comm are you going to use and comm speed.

theres a clamp that connects the end fence to the motor that jumps off and gives a BK-004 code because the end fence does not reach home position, did you check it. Its the clamp under C and B

Cobi you can try this, but first right down your machines index values

1. Access the service menu and note the following EEPROM
values:
Index 1, 2, 3, 16 and 20 to 26.
2. Make sure the main power to the Booklet maker is switched
off.
3. Press and hold the leftmost and rightmost button on the Control
Panel.
4. Switch ON the main power switch.
5. Release the buttons on the Control Panel when the text CLEARING
EEPROM is shown on the LCD. This will be followed by
text DONE on the LCD.
6. Key in the password, press the OK button.
7. Press the ESC button.
8. Switch off the main power to the Booklet maker.
9. Switch on the main power switch.
- Default EEPROM values are restored.

EEPROM RESET
If minor logic problems arise the EEPROM reset procedure can be initiated. All data
in the EEPROM will be cleared including jobs, jam history etc. The only data not cleared are:
Counters:
- Staple
- Fold
- Trim knife
- Cover feed
Followed by this procedure it is advised to perform the Paper Size Reset in order to also reset the paper size parameters that have a great importance in the operation of the machine

The motor moves properly and even if you block the sensor it doesn't change state in test mode. If I didn't mention it, I did change out the sensor also. My fear is that the board won't be the same version firmware as the others, but I'll just have to roll the dice and see what happens tomorrow.
