Most likely just paper dust build up in the separation sensor and/or black patch.
That, or the sensor itself is shot (unlikely). Open the cover, and blow some compressed air around in there and it should take care of it

Clean all the rollers. I run them in service mode and clean them.

            J53 Sep sensor off
Sounds like it's not reading the correct paper size, use the ADF output checks on each sensor, mainly the length and width sensors

Ditto on the length and width sensors. The flags for the five width sensors are thin and can be bent/broken without much difficulty. Luckily the plate that covers them folds down after removing only three screws - I'd do that and blast all of them thoroughly with canned air.

I would 2nd this, had the patch get covered in dust causing same problem plenty of times and had one missing the black patch completely from factory !

Moza and sandy are correct. DJ 053 has nothing to do with paper length. If the length is detected wrong, it will either auto select the wrong paper or ask you to insert the detected paper size if not already loaded. I have customers in high dust areas where I have had to show the customer how to blow out the dust.
