A customer has reporrted the following situation. A couple of times in the past month the display screen has darkened, much the same way a laptop on "battery save mode" will dim down the the screen but still be visible. The difference is that it does not brighten up again, or respond to any options when they touch the screen. It will repsond to the "Home" button and will show the screen menu with all the preset buttons in normal "bright" mode. But pressing "PCS Director" on that menu takes them to a dimmed screen again. The only work around is to power down the copier and then turn it back on (there are no SC errors logged).
This machine does not load firmware through SD card slot 2 (ever since I did a Log Data Capture for Ricoh). I did update the following NOP firmware when this problem was first reported: Engine (v1.32.08W), System/Copy (v1.19T), Network Support (v12.66K), FCU (v7.00H) and Fax (v6.00L). JAVA/SDK is v1.16. The problem has come back and because of the problem with SD card slot 2, I cannot update JAVA to the current version.
Yesterday, I tried removing the Fax, disconnecting the HDD, reseating the Controller PCB and Memory DIMM all in an effort to see if I could get firmware to load from slot 2. PLEASE there is nothing wrong with my SD cards as I have tried mutiple cards with the Java "sdk" folder and "package"/"romdata" firmware folders. I have taken these same cards to a second C4503 and the firmware loaded on them downloads OK.
This is a 2 fold problem - screen dimming and firmware not downloading. Any help would be appreciated as Controller PCB and NVRAM are looking like the only options.
