    MP C2800 firmware

ok, folks, have a c2800 with a printing issue from Publisher...causing "bold" areas when it isnt supposed to. have changed print driver from 5e to 6 and it went away...now its back. remains bold in a certain area regardless of driver. did change to print only black and the bold went away...works for me but not them...lol

i tried updating firmware last visit but the machine didnt recognize sd card...so i tried to update remotely and the wim told me i was using wrong file...i downloaded straight from trsc so not sure what is happening...

anyone have a clue to why firmware not updating for me?

Sd card is too large in capacity.

Remote updating takes a different firmware to SD card updating (actually they are the same just with an extra header). If the machine failed to read the SD card then you either didn't put the firmware in the romdata folder, have an SD card too large (generally 1 or 2GB is the largest most machines accept) or have the wrong firmware.

This is an application issue, if the problem went away for a while but has returned then it is more than likely an update or setting has been changed. You can try installing a different model driver, I've had Indesign print fuzzy lines when using C4501 PCL 5 or 6 but not when using C4000 PCL 6. All to the same machine.

I've had similar issues in the past, and my understanding was that a specific document contained fonts that weren't necessarily recognized by a PCL driver, so the driver would basically substitute a font in its place.
I was advised to Install a Postscript card, and use the PS3 driver, and that resolved the issue for me.

What operating system is on the computer that you are using to load the firmware into the SD card?
This is probably a long shot, but if you are using Win XP you'll want to download the SD card formatting tool from Panasonic. For some reason some Ricoh equipment doesn't recognize SD cards formatted by Windows XP, which was quite the head scratcher back in the day.
If you are using an operating system newer than Win XP you can probably ignore the previous paragraph, at least Windows 7 doesn't need the Panasonic SD card formatter.
Of course, if you work for a place that takes old Ricohs back for trade ins, harvest the SD cards out of the trade ins if you can, delete all the files on them, and then use those SD cards for firmware updates. I've been doing that for years, and it has always worked for me.

I have Windows 8 on my home laptop. SD cards formatted with Windows format are hit and miss. Panasonic or Acer format utility work fine. What I was told by a Ricoh instructor once was to always use the Panasonic format utility, even with brand new SD cards. If you are having trouble finding SD cards smaller than 2GB, you can repartition a larger card with a software such as MiniTool Partition Manager Software for Windows PC and Server. I have used it and it works quite well. Still have to format with Panasonic utility after repartitioning.

On the printing issue, try changing the True Type mode from Download as Truetype to Download as Bit Mapped. You can also try change the graphics mode between vector and raster.
