I've Never been able to setup a scan to file on a Ricoh copier...

Granted I'm no IT genius...LOL not even close.
I can setup most Ricoh's to network print pretty easy.
But I have to hire outside help to setup any scanning features.

I've been a copier dealer in the Midwest for 10-11 years.
In the last 3 or so years a lot of my customers are asking for their Scan to be setup.
I have to hire a IT guy to come in and do it for me.
    I'm over it!

So today I picked up a free SP C232sf Ricoh copier/printer for myself from my wholesaler in exchange for doing a couple of simple copier repairs.
Seems to be in good shape 9000 clicks, 1900 of that in color.
Copied the front cover of a motorcycle magazine as a test, I gotta say it looked perfect to me.

    That said...
I have just spent the last 3-4 hours trying to figure out the scan setup.

I have a regular XPS Dell desktop, a wireless router...nothing tricky.

No problem getting into Web Image Monitor.
I then go into scan destination, scan to folder settings. It asks some seemingly basic questions.
    Full Name: Scanned Document
    Service Name:\\68.187.bla.bla \ Scanned Document

This is where my skills are probably lacking. I opened FireFox, Google Search, and asked what is my IP?
It came back with the 68.187.bla.bla number. Plugged it in.

I DO have a folder in "Documents" called "Scanned Document"
I also turned on sharing for "Documents" and "Scanned Document"

But I keep getting "Connection Failed" messages on the copier screen.

    So, help a guy out?

Is there a tutorial for this somewhere, you know...Scanning for Dummies or something?

    Any help is appreciated!

    That is not your ip.
open a command prompt (cmd) and type in ipconfig
that is where you will find your ip address

Well I did a CMD prompt ipconfig and as expected I found a different IP for my computer.

I went back into the web image monitor and input that number into the scan to folder settings.
I replaced the incorrect IP with the new found one.

So I saved all that. And then went back to the Copier / Printer and tried a scan to file.
I got the same results as before "Server Connection Failed"

      Still unable to scan!

      Thanks for the help...anyone else?

Try disabling your firewall, temporarily, to see if it will connect.

You're also better off putting the scan folder on the root drive of your PC (e.g. C:\Scans) and putting a shortcut to this on your desktop.
          Which O.S are you running?
Windows 7 and 8.1 usually require User authentication to access the shared scan folder.
You also MUST turn on File and folder sharing in Windows.
I DO feel your pain though...setting up scanning used to be the domain of my dealership's install guy but more and more I've had to accompany him on installs and a few times he's gotten ME to setup scanning for the customer.
Luckily for me he's given me a few tips to make it easier.

Sounds like the MFD might be on a completely different sub-net.

            Firmware must be up todate.
Plug in a crossover cable to your PC and MFD directly nothing else.
Type in "ipconfig/all" in a DOS window. Check for network IP class eg. 10.0.0.0 or 192.168.0.0 etc.
            Example Test use :
In PC network adapter |configuration type in
            PC IP 10.0.0.5
            PC subnet 255.255.255.0

            In your MFD settings:
MFD turn off DHCP and set to manual IP configuration.
            MFD IP 10.0.0.10
            MFD subnet 255.255.255.0
MFD DNS 10.0.0.5 (Don't care for now,but must be changed to DNS server IP after testing or when using DHCP.)
MFD gateway 10.0.0.5 (change to server/router IP after testing )
MFD Setup Authentication ie. user name and password which is the same as PC user name and password used to logon to the PC from bootup.
MFD setup scan to folder \\10.0.0.5\scans
            (NB. SPC232 will be "10.0.0.5\scans")
Set up a scan to folder share on PC c:\scans
Make sure PC c:\scans folder has file sharing rights with full admin access for everyone.

Do a scan test from MFD to your PC.

            HTH.

Check that the IP address of your computer is on the same subnet as the Ricoh. I have found that for best results the domain name, if you are on a domain, and SMB workgroup name on the Ricoh should match that of the computer(s). Ricoh has a number of How To and video nuggets for setting u scan to folder and scan to email.

Re: I've Never been able to setup a scan to file on a Ricoh copier...

                  My frustration is building fast...

                  OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Out of the 5 computers in our household only 1 is password protected (my wifes work laptop "Windows 8.1) We'd like to keep it that way.
                  Computer: Dell XPS desktop
Changed "Scans" folder to my "C" drive. All folders and drive are shared with everybody (read and write).
Went into Web Image Monitor and updated. Rebooted both computer and copier.
                  Tested...Again connection failed

                  So then...
I decided to apply all this to my wife's passworded Windows 8.1 computer.
Checked IP addresses, subnet, followed instructions from above...double checked everything.
                  Made sure password was correct.
                  Tested...Again connection failed

Everything on my network is setup with DHCP shut off including the copier and my former HP color laser.
Did I mention the printer portion of this was setup in 15 minutes on a total of 5 computers.

I think I'm am about ready to admit defeat. And I am remembering why I pay someone to setup the scan on my Ricoh's.

Some of what NeoMatrix was talking about was above my pay grade.
LOL, I've never needed a crossover cable in 15+ years. I've seen them at Best Buy, never thought I would need one.

Anyone with any ideas how to make what should be easy...easy? Cause I'm not gettin' it here.

                  Jeff D.

                        Few tips,

Make sure you can access the shared scan folder from another PC.

Try to use your PC name for Service Name rather than an IP address. (Might make no difference)

Use your entire user name (CMD whoami command)

Add a password to your user account and add this to the authentication of your scans folder in the address book.

I also remember someone mentioned something about Win 7 Home not being as easy to setup as Pro.

You may like to buy a cross over cable so we can help you eliminate a step in the network.
For now don't use win8.1 for you PC-MFD test as it uses SMB 3.0 security policy. You can set it to drop down to lower security later.
Your MFD firmware must be upto date. The SPC232 is an older machine so it will be limited to windows 1.0, 2.0 SMB.

As stated previous, disable your firewall software while you test the SMB side of the software. Try reducing the PC 128bit encryption down to the lower setting.
Try turn off password protect sharing. Make sure you set a user name & non-blank password for your MFD reguardless.
Use windows 7 home premium for your test bed until you get the settings working correctly in your setup.
SPC232 is a pain sometimes from memory it may require power off an on after each config change.

Post your PC IP config and your MFD IP config settings to the forum...

Keep smiling.... help is at hand.

If you do not want to use a login password then do Start - Run (or for Windows 8 Windows key + r) and type "control userpasswords2" and press Enter. Uncheck the box Users must enter a user name and password and highlight the User Name that you want as the primary login. When you click apply you will be asked for the password for that user (leave blank if there is no password). When you boot the computer you will go directly to the desktop or Start Screen. You can then set up a scanner account with a password.
