I volunteer at a non-profit that had a Lanier LP440c donated, but we can't change the IP address. Its saying that the user doesn't have the right privileges. I've tried guessing the admin user/pass but have had no luck getting one to work. I was able to login using "supervisor" with no password but that also would not let me change the IP. Does anyone know the default admin user/pass for this printer or another way to reset/change it? (I can get into the service mode if needed). The place that donated it had no idea what it could be, they weren't even aware anything was setup to prevent the IP change (they're shutting down so most of the techs/admins are gone ) I've worked on quite a few HP printers but this type of thing is new to me, thanks for any help

Re: LP 440c - cannot change IP address
The only function of 'supervisor' mode is to reset the admin credentials to default (or whatever you like). The default is 'admin' (no password)
Once you do that, you can then:
Press user tools/counter
Press login/logout button.
Login with new credentials
touch system settings /
Administrator tools / Administration Authentication Mgmt
Set all 4 features to off
Touch Exit
Machine should now be unlocked
** Of course these settings can also be changed via the WIM if you prefer....Last edited by sandmanmac; 02-06-2015, 09:00 PM. -
Re: LP 440c - cannot change IP address
Thanks for the reply. This printer does not have a user tools/counter button that I can find. After I login with the supervisor account I can't find any way to reset the administrator password. panel440c.jpg. The settings under supervisor appear the same as when no login is being used. Is there a hidden menu I have to access or some other combination of buttons that resets the admin password? Thanks.

OOPS! My bad.
There was a scanner option available for this model which you apparently don't have.
Try this.....
The options may appear the same when you log in as 'supervisor', but when you click 'configuration" you'll see the option to program / change administrator.
Set a password or just leave the boxes blank and click "ok", 'OK"
Logout, and then log back in with your credentials
Now when you click on "confiuguration", you'll see all sorts of other available settings. Click on "administrator authentication management " and set everything to "Off".
Now all the features on the control panel of the machine should be unlockedComment

Re: LP 440c - cannot change IP address
Correct don't have a scanner/copier option And I also can't seem to find any menu or submenu with a configuration heading or settings related to the admin account.
Under Menu I have: Paper Input - Maintenance - List/Test Print - System - Print Settings - Security Options - Host Interface - Language
I've checked under 'system' and 'security options' but neither seem to have any admin reset options.
Anything else I can try or look at? Thanks

Re: LP 440c - cannot change IP address
Your reference to 'supervisor' threw me off, because it sounded as though you had some familiarity with the unit and that the supervisor credentials could be used as a reset.
Glad you got it worked out just the same.Comment

Re: LP 440c - cannot change IP address
just to clarify in case anyone else has an issue with this and checks this post..the username was indeed "admin", but the password had been changed and the donating company was able to locate the password that it was changed to. I had read that lanier devices had a "supervisor" account that could be used to reset the admin password, thats why I tried it. While I was able to login using "supervisor" I never did find any reference to removing the admin password or resetting it to defaults via the machine control panel . I'll be looking into the web interface next time I'm at the device now that I can access it.
Thanks again
You're welcome, but this is the second line of my original post

Sorry, I also misunderstood, and initially thought you were in fact logging into the web monitor. Now that you have an IP address set, you will be able to log in via a web page with supervisor (no password) and change/ delete the admin password and turn off the authetication setttings
Good luck!Last edited by sandmanmac; 02-07-2015, 04:32 AM.Comment
