RICOH Aficio MP C305 Black Toner has been Depleted

Hello Guys,

Good day, we would like ask some advice regarding our new MP-C305 SPF. At first it show No Toner icon below (Black was empty) and we tried to replaced it with brandnew OEM Ricoh toner and after the loading we got the message that the toner Black has been depleted. Appreciate your inputs guys.. TIA!

PS: printer was also brand-new and after 5days of operation this scenario happened. So we spend already 15 days for the new toner arrived and still we can not use the machine.

brb-pwd can be found at the back of the machine? right? so we will just check the pins where the cables are connected. And btw what is the pcdu?

we encountered the same problem with a brand new MP C2003 and it was a broken auger inside the toner transport section.

Hi there!
pcdu = photocondutordevelopmentunit.
The pins of the brb which have contact with the tonerbottle are visible from the front, after removing the bottles. For a real good look you have to remove the board.

tried to check the contacts from brb, gear from pcu.. and everything is ok but still toner has been depleted is the message. Will check the toner transport belt. Thanks again.

Where did you found the toner transport section?

In my case even the Toner-Black was outside the machine the error messages still shows that the toner has been depleted, tried to restart without the toner and still the same..

Check the service manual - pages 212-213. Yo have to take out the unit at the back of the machine.

Check the service manual - pages 212-213. Yo have to take out the unit at the back of the machine.

We ran up a brand new machine last week that had the same fault and yes...it turned out to be a twisted auger and it's a hell of a job to replace in these little bastards..!!!!

sounds like a similar plague we had with the spc430. We ended up having an engineering shop make us up steel coils that lasted much longer.

I hope this is not on the cards for the 305!

I can also be the toner bottle motor - I had one 305 where I changed the supply system for the toner, but saw that the bottle wasnt turning! Also changed the motor for the bottle.....

The issue, apparently, has to do with the shutter plate on the toner hopper. If the shutter does not open, the unit will continue to dump toner into the hopper, which gets packed tightly and the auger breaks or gets twisted in a weird shape. Ricoh has a new design on the PCDU's that is supposed to address the problem. You do have to replace the toner hopper, which is a 2-3 hour job. Pull out the toner bottles and pcdu's first. If you don't, you will not get the hoppers out. Don't forget to put the screws from the motors back onto the hoppers, otherwise you will have a big toner mess when one or more drops from it's mount.

Addenduum. It may be possible to modify the existing PCDU's. It involves building up the arm on the PCDU which pushes on the toner hopper shutter using some UV glue. This glue hardens very solid in the presence of a UV light. You can buy a kit (glue and light) at a hardware store. I will be doing a mod on some PCDU's to see how well it holds. If you try it, I recommend that you rough up the area with sand paper (be careful not to get any in the PCDU), then set the glue. My test of the modification will include about 50 times inserting and removing the PCDU to ensure the modification holds.
