Aficio 1018 Print spool 300kb pdf file to 60MB?

I have a client with a 1018. When printing a 300kb pdf file, its spools to 60MB and the printer runs out of memory. Any ideas?

maybe you´ve got a 64Mb. memory installed it can go up to 128Mb. that will resolve your issue. (PC100)

The PDF files will sometimes expand a bit, but that is too much!!!

When I've seen this, it ended up being some weird application print where the app ended up adding additional material (I know it sounds weird) to the initial print job.

Is it just a regular PDF or is it embedded into another program? If the printer does not act weird with other print jobs and other applications, I would recheck the original application and check all document/print settings when getting ready to print.

I'm guessing that there may be some setting that is maybe merging the document or something to the printed file.

That is a weird problem. Good luck.

I've also seen this before. The easiest solution I've found is to change the dpi when printing the file to 300 from the default 600. For some reason this keeps the file closer to its regular size and it prints just fine.
The main culprit I've had with this has been scan PDF's. For some reason it seems like the driver wants to impose a 600 dpi image onto a 200 or 300 dpi original.
It may also be something wrong in the way the file was created. If the customer is using a full version of Acrobat, have them save the file as a PostScript file and then re-create the PDF by opening the newly created file.
If they are using regular old Reader, you may also want to suggest updating the version of Adobe that's being used. Adobe Reader 6 for example, was notorious for all kinds of strange print issues.
Let us all know what you find.

            Windows Xp

            PCL 6 V1.10

            Also tried PCL mini-driver V2.04

Do you get a RPCS driver for the AF1018?

of course not, just put in extra memory and get it over with, you can find a memory dimm at any Cash converters for less than $10, 128Mb PC100 from an old laptop will do the job.

I had something similar happen on an Aficio 1515. It would hang up only when printing PDF files. It was resolved by doing a memory clear on the printer application (SP 5801-008).

I solved a similar problem printing to the Ricoh 1018 using the HP Laserjet5Si print driver.
