    Ricoh Aficio 1022 Drum Units

I have two questions on this topic so I'll number them and leave a space between:

1.) What is the best source for purchasing Ricoh Aficio 1022 PCU Units?

2.) Sometimes I rebuild the units instead of purchasing a rebuilt unit. When rebuilding it though, is there a way to keep the gears from being eaten up? I ask this because I'm not even getting 50,000 copies out of the units I rebuild or from the ones I purchase from Densigraphix.

Thank you in advance for the help given.

Most rebuild kits come with a set of gears. The gears get eaten up because the bushings for the arbor shafts wear and developer starts working through and on to the gears. The biggest problem that I have with rebuilt 1027 PCUs and rebuild kits is an inconsistent quality to the cleaning blades. They can go soft and deform away from the drum causing offsetting.

      Densi Compatible PCU's = Garbage
      Densi Rebuild Kit = Garbage

I tried rebuilding these units for a while, even with all Genuine Parts, and they simply aren't built for that in my opinion. I found about 1 in 5 ran to cycle, Vs. most of new units running beyond.
So the perceived initial savings was eaten up in my extra time, repeat service calls, and overall customer dis-satisfaction. I find I'm far better off paying a little more up front, and not having to worry about the performance.

If I resided in the U.S., I'd be buying most of my stuff from Precision Roller. Vast Inventory, and generally pretty reasonable pricing.
We have nothing in Canada that compares.

We tried rebuilding having to much trouble and unhappy customers so now we use Genuine PCU Type 1027. For all B/W M/c From Aficio 1022 to MP 3351.
But you can't rebuild these units to much trouble so we keep a genuine rebuild in case (no stock)

Katun makes a rebuild kit for the PCU1027 that has all the bits except for dev. There is a drum, blade and gear set included.

I have the feeling that the gears also wear because there is too much dev in the unit, especially when the toner is also added into that small space.

To my mind, when i can hear a pcu moan when it is running, there is too much dev = too much load = stripped dev auger gears. We seldom fit ALL the dev, for that reason and have minimal comebacks.

We used to rebuild them but they never lasted as long as the original and the hassle of going back. Its more expensive but a lot less hassle if you buy a new one.

Yes wish there were a better answer but rebuilds and compatibles for these just don't work or last long enough to justify.

Agreed, we had no success with rebuilds for the Supply PCU (green handle). It pays to replace them with the Type 1027.

Re: Ricoh Aficio 1022 Drum Units

we only use the 1027 pcus for the model they were meant to go in, and on a rare im out of parts at this call occasion we may throw in a 1027 into a older 725 type model usual nothing more then 20-25ppm. We rebuild all pcus for otherwise with ricoh parts. We have a few techs who will replace the lower casing when the gears are chewed up, myself i find it just as easy to dump the developer and remove the 3 screwes that hold the augers in and just remove the augers, clean them and the casing and replace the gears i think they are part b0393060 and b0393062 the white and black gears in total i think there is 3 black gears and 2 white colored ones pretty easy to replace them all and reassemble during PM and the gears are only a few bucks vs the price of the whole casing. Since the majority of our machines are contracted for repairs its cheaper for us to rebuild vs replace with the 1027s or with some rebuild junk. When done correctly it only takes about 30 mins to rebuild the whole thing with gears and cleaning it and they last 60k plus page count some have lasted over 100k pages. We can rebuild a pcu and fuser unit and clean the machine and check over in about an hour.
