Thanks, Sandy. I'm just trying to cover my bases before I go back. I think the issue is network support firmware. The latest release seems to be on 2-28-15, and I may have the previous version installed. This might be an easy fix.
Ricoh started releasing Net Support firmware for WIndows8/Server2012 somewhere around November or December 2012. Most initial updates are dated in 2013.
You can enable SMB v1 from Windows Features in Add and Remove programs.
It is far less secure but it will get older machines working with folder shares on 8/8.1.
This is not true for all Windows 8/8.1. Line for SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support does not appear in my Windows 8. Next time I have my hands on a Windows 8.1 I will check it.
I have a customer with an Aficio 2022 that had an XP box they were using as a scan server and I could share the folder with their Windows 7 PCs. (Used the XP because I could not get the 2022 to send a scan directly to the Windows 7 PCs). I was told that a firmware upgrade was not possible due to the age of the equipment and the complexity (before the SD card days). So, maybe with Windows 8.1 I could turn on SMB1 and would that work possibly with scanning from the 2022? I see you cannot turn it on with Windows 7.

It won't hurt to try turning on SMB1 in Windows 8.1. I would try it on a machine in your shop if possible or at least on on a laptop if you have one with Windows 8.1.
The other option is to see if you can sell them a new machine to use for scanning. Lowest end machine that will give them the scanning size that they want. They will also get color scanning and scan to email. You might even want to offer them this option even if you get the Windows 8.1 to work for them
There was a Special/Custom firmware available at one time from Ricoh. The link for it on TSRC takes you to a request form that must be filled in and submitted. They would then send you a link to download the firmware. Of course you did need to have a PCMCIA card, a PC with a PCMCIA slot and the software for writing to the PCMCIA card.

I've heard this suggested on several different threads, and tried it myself on many occasions with different (Ricoh) models and never had any success outside of updating firmware. Just wondering if you (or anyone else) has actually had this work?

I always just setup Filezilla FTP on these older boxes. Works like a charm - except on Windows XP (ironically)

I have a hospital about an hours drive away with a MP 2852. The administrative assistant just got a new Windows 8.1 computer. I had IT try this and it did not work. Now I will have to go there and update the machine. The biggest problem it that if they had called on it about three hours earlier yesterday, I was there doing a PM on another machine and I have the latest firmware on my laptop.
