Lets start at the beginning. Was the machine working and is now not? Or was the service call for this?

It sounds like a wiring problem.

I would check the duplex connector [wide white plug] (on the left back of the machine) for bent pins. These are notorious for bending when the plug is not inserted straight and can cause all kinds of trouble. Also check the duplex plug itself, cause if that is damaged (on the side where the pins go in) they will simply bend again, in stead of being inserted into the plug.

Failing that I would do the same for the connectors of the interkit itself. Remove the right cover that sits between the scanner and the machine front door. Check all connections between the machine and the interkit there.
