I received a call to this Savin 8035 about an error code that was flashing at the top of the display. The code was an SC-870 and read "Address Book Error." The copier was usable, but the sort and duplex features weren't. The customer then said that another message popped up on the display that covered the majority of the screen. The customer couldn't describe the error, but I remember seeing it before, but not what it read. The customer eventually turned the copier off and back on, and says it is working, and with no issues. I plan on replacing the hard drive as I've seen this problem once before and that's how I resolved it. However, I am curious if this problem has been seen before? I seem to be replacing a lot more hard drives lately, and it has peaked my curiosity as to whether this is a common problem. Thank you for any input.

Re: Savin 8035
We were going through HDDs and PCBs like crazy a few years ago, especially after thunderstorms and snow storms. We began requiring REAL surge protectors on all contract machines, and have noticed a sharp decline in both bad boards and HDDs, BUT we still do get the occasional board or drive fail........ Matter of odds, I guess. Unless you're getting a lot of power surges. -
Re: Savin 8035
Usually caused by customers just turning the machine off and on without hitting the display power first. It is like killing the power to your computer instead of telling it to shut down.
The HDD needs to park @ a home position otherwise it can't start properly.
Try reformatting it in service mode first.
I had a MPC 4500 that kept killing hard drives. After a little detective work and a piece of clear tape over the main switch, the customer admitted to just turning it off when they got a jam.
Billed them for the last HDD and problem never came back.
Ever since, I put a small piece of tape to the side of the cover to see if they had turned off the main switch. Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment
