Ricoh PU5020 Punch Unit ("P-U" is right...)

I can't believe we are the only one's having issues with these unit's (as Ricoh is trying to tell us). They are lasting only about 3 month's in our 8100's average about 150k punch's before they start to fail. It always begins with a ragged punch on the op. side hole then the paper will begin to hang in the unit causing a skew and jam into the staple area.We have dis-assembled them looking for a cause but have yet to find anything obvious. At this point we have just chalked it up to the fact that the unit's are just poorly designed and not able to handle all the different stock in a print shop environment (all paper within spec.). Would like to hear from others about their experiences with these units...

I have one at a customer with a Pro 1357EX that has close to 15M. The only problem with the punch unit is that the punches will start to stick at 3M to 5M. Clean the punches thoroughly with contact cleaner. Do not lubricate as lubricant attracts dust and causes them stick sooner. The type and quality of paper will affect mean time between cleaning
