    Sc670 - mpc6003 / mpc5503 / mpc4503

I had a machine that was throwing SC670 on startup. A ribbon cable and multiple boards later the SC code still existed. The problem was narrowed down to connector CN203 on the Imaging IOB board, then further narrowed to the "ID Chip" PCB:TCB (Yellow). The PCB:TCB was swapped with another color (Cyan) but the problem remained with (Yellow). After ruling out a pinched/shorted wiring harness, I remembered there is small "chip" on the toner bottle. So we finally removed the toner bottle (Yellow) and the problem went away entirely. Put the bottle back in and it the SC670 came back. Swapped the bottle with a good one and problem solved. There happened to be some sort of defective "chip" on this particular toner bottle. Hope no one ever has this problem, but if you do maybe this will help.

I had this same problem on a MPC2500, very frustrating to try to find the error. :-D Swapped the yellow toner, all OK.

Thanks for the updates boys. Had a workmate come across this and he has replaced all PCBs on the parts lists.

            Nice troubleshooting skills there.

Can be a nightmare narrowing things down sometimes and understanding what exactly is the root cause of a problem.
Especially difficult when you don't have the parts to try and swap around.

i had the same issue with MPc 2003, and it was the yellow toner chip.

My first service with SC670-1 today on a mpc3003 (without faxboard, just with lower tray 3,4 pb) . Under the premise the problem could be caused by the toner, this is how i proceeded:

                  1. Machine power off and unplug the power cable -> after that pushed the power button for residual voltage
                  2. Unplug the network cable
                  3. Put all toner bottles out
                  4. Insert the firmware sd with package file
                  5. Plug the power cable and started the machine
                  6. Package update was possible without sc code
                  7. Restarted of the machine again without toner bottles
                  8. Machine starts regular and i installed the toners one by one.
                  9. Restarted with network connection
                  10. All the jobs from customers spooler were printed

                    Quick question:

Was it Ricoh Genuine Toner or an independant supplier?

Here we go again, SC670-01. The toner trick does not help here in my case anymore. When the boards work properly green led is permament on and the red led of bcu board blinks permanently without breaks. When the green LED of IPU board blinks, the red led on bcu board blinks twice with a break between so there are possible communication problems bcu and ipu board. You see the two white flat cables. Pull both of them off (be very careful!!!) and put them on again on all marked sides. The eeprom on bcu I have also set out and put again on the socket. After this works the machine started without sc anymore.

                              Yes. It was OEM.
