RICOH Aficio SP C430DN, faded vertical lines when printing black

Hello all,

My RICOH Aficio SP C430DN has begun to develop some problems when printing black. If it is anything less than 100% black, it will have faded vertical lines in the image. I've attached a pdf showing the result of a 90% opacity solid black image.

I repeated this test with solid cyan, magenta and yellow and none showed any faded or off color sections or lines.

Color images will show the lines if any amount of black was used in that area.

Since noticing this issue, the affected area has grown considerably.

I just replaced the black color drum and the problem did not change.


At this point I have reached the end of my knowledge of laser printers. If anybody has any ideas on what to check or change I would greatly appreciate it.

Is the lines always the same pattern?

Yes, the lines are always the same pattern. Over time, maybe a 200-300 prints, more of them have shown up. It used to be a small ~half inch wide pattern when the issue was first noticed.

Black laser shield glass - clean it.

Developer voids - replace the PCDU.

It was the laser shield glass. I had been troubleshooting an unrelated driver problem and removed the PCDU a number of times. Without a flashlight it was hard to tell any toner spilled but there was quite a bit. I disassembled the printer a bit and cleaned it up. Black prints perfect now.

Hello, I have the same problem but it happens with all prints color or black. I've been trying to look up online where the shield glass is but can't find anything. Can you tell where is it locate?

I am new here and I found this forum very helpful, so I decided to ask one question. I have multicolored print lines like in the picture I posted.
If someone knows what is the problem and how to solve it, please help me out

If you click on the "Supplies" button, anything that says "replace now", replace it.

Thank you for your help. I forgot to say that it's a ceramic printer, so I don't know if the printer will tell the "truth".
