I have an MP C4503, that keeps getting an SC990. I can't get into sevice mode, or even change things in the user tools (either through normal or admin.). The screen just goes back to the previous screen after selecting any feature (system settings, address manag. printer features etc.) Because I can't get into service I can't do a firmware upgrade. (Current V1.18 System/Copy). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

You don't need to get into service mode to do firmware, once it's booted up with firmware SD card inserted it should allow firmware update. If you use package data make sure you also do power saving subsystem using romdata, this isn't included in the package data and there are some important updates to it.
In service mode you can only do package upgrade, and only if machine is connected to @remote by Cumin, it's quicker to use SD card anyway.There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary maths and those who don't
