Lost ability to scan to e mail

Hi everyone, I have an account that has a mp5000, mp5001,and a mp3500. They have had them for years and have all ways scanned to e mail with no problem. Today they called and said they cant do this anymore. In talking to their IT person, he said their mail server updated something and now he cant get something called a SSL/TLS certificate. I'm very weak in this area, is this something I need to change in SP mode or maybe a firmware update? I'm very thankful for any help on this.

TLS/SSL are types of encryption, and none of those machines support any type of encrypted connection - even though there are options to install certificates within the WIM that might suggest they do.
Honestly, the whole thing is a bit confusing to me too, but I know this to be true. I work alone and have to come up with solutions for this type of thing often

I'm sure some of the more well-versed IT Pros will weigh in and explain it better than me.

They'll need to come up with a non-encrypted mail server solution. There are many workarounds. I've personally been using smtp2go in many accounts lately. It Works very well for me.

Early Ricoh boxes don't support SSL.
If he is using an Exchange server, he just has to open an OUTGOING port using ports 25 or 587 for SMTP.
Check Ricoh's support site for the step by step instructions.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Along with SMTP2Go, there's also Stunnel, which is completely free and just works as a service on a workstation or server (more of an ideal place since they're always on) and just routes the MFP's port 25 traffic to the correct outgoing secure TLS or SSL port.

I've installed it for several customers, as well as using it myself when I went from an IMAP email provider to Office 365. Any halfway decent sysadmin can either set it up, or find the information they need to get it to work. The only thing you'll need to do is make sure that the MFP's SMTP server setting points to the IP or host name of the server with Stunnel on it, and that the credentials for the email address are correct.

That's becoming a serious issue for the older Ricoh's now due to the fact that they do NOT support SSL/TLS. Fewer and fewer ISP support open SMTP on port 25 these days as an effort to cut down on Spam Email. The previous posts with SMTP software is a good work around. Gmail still has an open smtp on port 25 aspmx.l.google.com but your customers will need gmail accounts (which are free) and you won't need to purchase or maintain an internal email server. Scan to folder may be your last hope. However, those old Ricoh models will require firmware updates to scan to Win7 or Win8 as well as any server OS over 2003.

Thanks for all the answers, greatly appreciated. I only buy and sell Ricoh trade ins and lease returns. In the future, how can I tell which ones support encrypted connections?

In the future, how can I tell which ones support encrypted connections?[At the Op panel, User Tools > System settings > File Transfer > SMTP Server, below where you specify the Port# is the option to turn On "Use Secure Connection" SSL. If that option is not there, it does not support SSL/TLS encryption for email. It's also in the Product Support Guides".
