Have the windows 7 driver for MP2851 loaded but still says duplex not available when they try to print.
originally they were using the mp2550 driver do I had them switch it. Duplexes fine on copies.

In the driver properties, under accessories, did you add / install the duplexer ?

There have been a lot of reported problems with the universal driver. Were they originally using the driver that comes with Windows itself? If they were, you should have downloaded the normal PCL6 or PCL5 driver. The universal is best only used when pooling different Ricoh machines. That way they all use the same driver.

then they downloaded the pcl6 driver for mp2851 from the Ricoh website, still no duplex
then downloaded the universal print driver and it worked

When they installed the pcl5/pcl6 drivers, did they manually go into printer properties and configure the accessories tab/ installable options tab to show the driver had the options available on the printer???? The uni driver will auto update the accessories....... As for myself I don't like to use the uni drivers or drivers packed in windows...............................

This. You have to tell the driver what the machine has to be able to use it.

It's also possible to install a printer with downloaded drivers, but then you jump into printer properties and yup, 'Ricoh Class Driver' is still in there.

As others have mentioned, you have to check under the accessories tab. The duplex unit is considered a option on many of these earlier black and white machines (1 series and before). I have had that trip up users for duplex and also trying to select tray 3 or 4 if they happen to have a paper bank on the machine and have not told the driver that the machine has the two extra trays.

I am a bit more supportive of the universal driver depending on the situation because Ricoh has said that is the driver that will always be the most up to date. When issues come up, that one gets fixed first, then the individual drivers are addressed, newest machines first, and then going backwards from there.
