We have a CLX-9352 that at home position the scan lamp doesn't come on when you use the ADF.
The scan lamp does come on if you copy or scan off the glass.

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn the lamp on in service mode.

If you push the ADF down switch by the left hinge the lamp flashes brightly moves to home position under the slit glass when you release it flashes dimly and moves to copy off glass position .
The good machine in the show room flashes brightly when you release that switch then moves to copy off glass.

Any Ideas?

it turns out it was the lamp supply cable but to get it you need to order the whole scanner assembly......
but on the bright side its only about $174 AU and dead easy to change.

Shortly after that we had another scanner die on another CLX-9352...
