    Samsung SCX-8123 Control Panel Freeze, Unresponsive on any buttons.

    I have a Samsung SCX-8123 where the customer says the "Control Panel" will freeze or lock-up. Touch panel or hard buttons don't respond. Soft Power button does not respond, unresponsive on any buttons.

    Customer has to "unplug" machine or use "main" power toggle on right rear of machine to reboot. Has anyone had any control panel trouble from this SCX-8123 or its cousin the SCX-8128 ??

    I am going to follow up with a firmware update but don't know what else to try. Have not witnessed the failure in person.

    Any feedback is appreciated and encouraged !!

      If that machine is pretty new and has been treated correctly, the following will probably not help.
      But I have heard of other manufacturer's control panels doing this because crud has gotten between the touch panel and its bezel, or is causing one of the other keys to get stuck. Essentially it's like holding down one of the hard number keys and then the rest of the number keys won't work.

          I've had several 8123's with that problem. In one case the hard buttons still worked so the fix was to replace the LCD unit. On another one the entire system freezes. I've kept the f/w up to date, installed an HDD, and even had the entire box replaced by Samsung but the problem remains. Every couple of weeks the machine locks up and they have to cycle the power. In my experience all the A3 series Samsung's are prone to freezing up. I see it on the 9252 series, the M4580FX series, the 8123, and the X7xxx series. Samsung makes decent hardware but their software is very buggy.
          Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

              We had one a long time ago and replacing control panel did not fix. Samsung suggested replacing hard drive also so the combination fixed it and has not come back.

                  It does not even have a HDD installed. This unit is the base model SCX-8123 WITHOUT the optional HDD.

                  The machine was installed brand new late 2015 and currently has only 16k on it.

                  I updated the firmware today to version 4.00.03.41 was previously x.xx.xx.32

                  The customer says the entire panel gets "locked up". The hard buttons AND the touch screen freezes. Customer must un-plug power to reset panel.

                  I have not witnessed it. I will have to wait and see I suppose, but a long term client is now in a sour mood indeed. I just hope the latest firmware fixes it.

                      Well, it is froze up again. Panel goes dark, no keys work on panel or touch pad. New firmware did not fix. Customer has to un-plug machine to reset.

                      There is NO HARD DRIVE on this model SCX-8123.

                      Anybody else got any clues.

                          it's been 3 or 4 years since I worked on the sammy's, but apparently Samsung still hasn't fixed this problem. Sammy has had this issue back to the early A3 and A4 machines. Different hard drives, main pcb's, frimwar ect... send files to Korea ect.. Samsung still has this issue, WOW that has to suck.............

                              Wow! It's like you've had a camera in my office for the past 6 months! At least they're consistent!

                              I've had to replace 2 control panels on this series, so that would be my next step.
