I'm working on a Samsung SCX-6545 (or Muratec MFX-4555) and have a recurring error message which says "Jam at Top of Duplex Path", this is occurring as soon as i start up the machine even though there is no actual paper jam. I followed the steps recommended by the trouble shooting guide but still haven't had any luck. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure this will help, but I beat my brains out with almost the exact same problem. Except there was always paper in the paper path.
Turns out there are two pulleys that have one way bearings in the back of the right hand door, and one of them was slipping. The mothership had a parts machine I could harvest a replacement for the defective pulley, and that took care of that problem. Which was a good thing too as otherwise I would have had to order the entire right hand door from Samsung (it is only available as an assembly from there).
On a lighter note, have you checked the output from the sensors in that area? I'm pretty sure that can be done, but I don't have access to the manual anymore so like a dummy I can't tell you how to do that.
