    Samsung Scan to Email issue.

We have a customer who has 4 new Samsung MFP's who is having an issue scanning to email. They are getting authentication errors. It is connecting to the server but will not authenticate the user. They also have some Sharp MFP's that have been in their location and a few of the other branches for years and they are all working fine with the exact same settings. I believe the model number of the Sharp's are ARM455N and ARM257's. The samsungs that we are having problems with are the CLX-8540, SCX-6555 and SCX-6545. All of them are having the exact same problem. They have all had the firmware updated. We have tried different user names, passwords, etc. Samsung support said to try a different smtp server so I tried our company's and got the same authentication error. I know that my info was put in right because I have done it about 1000 times. I'm waiting to hear back from samsung again but I need to find a resolution as quick as possible. Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks

I've seen some crazy things with scan to email on Samsungs. I've seen them get errors when you test them out by configuring the SMTP servers and what not and click the "Test" button at the bottom only to check the email account and find that they went through.

Have you tried a gmail account to test it out? Did you configure the Primary AND Secondary DNS settings (I found that out the hard way). I can do my best to help you out with that. PM me if you would like.

I've come across this issue before. The customer's router was blocking Samsung. It was a security issue. I'm sorry but I don't remember the term used by their IT tech, but the Samsung "raised a red flag" and blocked all outgoing connections. IT guy reset and "allowed" the Samsung permission.

Is your customer using Microsoft Exchange servers?

Are the servers internal of the network or accross a WAN?

Most of the time when I work with MFD's and Exchange, I just add a new Receive Connector to the Exchange server which allows unauthenticated SMTP Relay, but only from certain IP addresses such as MFD's. Have a look at this docco that I did which will give you a step by step guide on how to do this.

Got the problem resolved. The settings in the Sharp included the SMTP authentication being enabled. It turns out that the samsung would NOT work with that box checked, but would without the box being checked. The IT did not know why but it is working with all of the same settings EXCEPT SMTP authentication.

Thank you for teh Doc. I will keep a hold of that. But they were not using exchange. Their ISP handles their email server.

              No worries.

I hate ISP handled SMTP stuff as it can sometimes be really hard to get a resolution from them.
