Sharpdesk - Network Scanner Tool - Question

    Hello fellow wonderful IT/copier gentlemen,

I install Sharpdesk and the Network Scanner Tool often for users that have a license and need OCR or FTP scanning. Sometimes, when I go into the Network Scanner Tool > Scanners > Properties > Advanced, the "Use Host Name" option will be grayed out, and I am forced to use IP. I know about the "Update Now" option, which is a quick fix, but some customers don't want to do that (you know how that goes I'm sure - too many clicks).

I'm wondering why this option is grayed out? It would be really helpful in some environments to use hostname instead of IP. Any ideas?

    Much appreciation in advance.

depends on the type of dhcp network, if you press the help button on the screen or look at the sharpdesk user manual it explains the type of dhcp it needs. also dns has to be set on the copier and dns has to be on the network. also if you do the auto setup of scanner the network scan tool software defaults to ip address, if you delete the scanner, then press new select host name enter host name of scanner(advanced button is greyed out until host name is entered). then press advanced, the host name selection is active. but if the network is not running full dhcp policy and no dns server, it will still use ip address.

I now host name does work as I have several customers that have dns servers and dhcp , the host names of the pc show up in the address book of the mfp.
