    Odd Network Issue

Hi, Hoping someone may have run across a similar issue. I have an MX-2640, initial call was because when unit came out of sleep mode customer could not scan to folder or print over network. On initial inspection of course I could not replicate the issue, but after doing firmware update, just in case, I decided to see if I could access web page and print while unit in sleep mode. Negative on both counts. First hint of problem. I then reset the NIC card to see if that would fix issue. After reset I immediately re assigned static IP previously on machine. Could not access unit over network in any fashion at all, ping, webpage, print, nothing, even after numerous hard reboots. Had idea to set unit on DHCP hoping if glitch in network routing it might reset something (had this work on different issue), yes, it unit came online almost immediately. Reset to static IP and tested as before, with sleep access from webpage and print. Every thing worked as expected. Thinking issue must have been some sort of routing release I left customer with instruction that if issue returned to set to another IP address and see if this fixed the issue. Well, issue returned and after giving another IP it continues to have problem. I'm trying to exhaust all possibilities before replacing MFP PWB. I might add that after resetting the NIC card while running continuous ping, whenever system was rebooted we would get 4-5 ping response but then drop off again. Also system admin told me they use server for static IP addressing and allow their Verizon router to manage DHCP. Anyone have any idea other than bad PWB? Thanks Paul

Bring your own router and a laptop and set up a network between your laptop and the printer. I bet you can ping it all day long with no hiccups. This would prove it is their network causing the issue.

Go to Services on machine web page and disable mDNS.

This particular service has created more headaches for me than I can to say.

Don't ask me to explain it, because I can't. But do try it prior to replacing boards.

mDNS is for small networks and unchecking that tells clients to use names instead of addresses and is more for scanning not printing i think

you don't even need a network switch or router just get yourself a cross over network cable and the laptop should do the trick.

newer sharps with the "wood grain" finish as per sharp don't even need a crossover cable. Just a patch cable.

                  Re: Odd Network Issue

OK, Update. I left the customer last week with instructions that if issue returned with unit set to static IP to set unit to DHCP and use machine with that setting to see if it returned. Well issue supposedly returned. I say supposedly because as opposed to last week I could not replicate issue while onsite. I learned some added info, whether accurate or not, that unit will drop from network also while awake. Anyway, set up my own mini network with laptop and router and again, never lost network connectivity, was able to ping til the cows came home. Switched back to their network and same, never lost connection. Contacted Sharp tech support and they've have no record of anything like this and only suggestion was to manually set network speed to that of the network, gigabit. No other recommendations, but stated he highly doubts issue is the NIC/MFP board. Issue is intermittent and network has many variables. Left it with customer to advise if issue persists. Left unit with DHCP assigned IP but set to static on machine and disabled sleep mode. Also disabled WSD on unit as suggested here. Wait and see game as of now. Thx for responses. P

I like to use a space, a minus sign, and a T at the end of my ping to make it do it continuously and watch times differences. See Picture

If it happens again post the syslog

If you don't know how to get it.... do the following. In this example ip address of machine is 192.168.1.50

                      In browser enter 192.168.1.50/service_testpage.html
                      password service

Towards bottom to page on left you will see Syslog, click, then you will be given option to save.
