Can HDD be intermittent; copier was giving an E7-03 yet was usually resettable; eventually removed printer card because of another code either CE-00 or CE-01 can't remember; however after printer card was removed both codes as of now have gone away. Any thoughts or help appreciated.

HDD can be intermittent. With that old dog, there is a good chance the PCU/MFP PWB's are, or are going to, become a problem.
I got one right now with a E790. It has been sitting in the warehouse for months now, it will probably never be fixed. -

on these machine ce-00 will appear if network cable is not plugged in or faulty,
you can switch ce-00 off, with soft switch.
