    mx-c402sc noisy fusers

When I took over service for my current company I found a bunch of old frontier line fusers on the shelves. Some of them have obvious problems like flat spots on the rollers but others seem to be OK, I can hand roll the fuser and don't feel any dead spots, I've replaced the drive gear, and lubed the fuser shaft the drive gear sits on (mfp-sb-296a) but they keep knocking and rattling.

Anyone familiar with this problem and perhaps know of a solution?

My experience with noise on those fusers relates to the bearings, also they have an automatic pressure release mechanism that will make a louder knock noise but that is by design. But again have had a number of them with a creaking noise related to bearings.
When I started servicing copiers they used toaster ovens for fusers.....I'm old

This is a common problem with these fusers and the only way to get rid of the noise is to rebuild them from the kit MX-C32HK. We have quite a few of them in the field and I rebuild one at least once a month. I also switch out all the levers and gears on the side of the fuser. We asked the salespeople not to sell any more of this model. Hope this helps

Thanks for the answers. When you have a bad bearing from one of these fusers in your hand can you tell they are bad when you rotate the inner ring? Does if feel sticky or rough?

They should run smooth, no sticking no rough spots. It should be able to spin easily.

Not always. Sometimes the bad bearings feel smooth as butter but put into a working condition they will scream like a banshee.

I like these machines except for the fuser, it is the week link because of the terrible pressure release mechanism breaking the flag sensor arm often and codes to a L4-16

And note that we are now on the third design for that flag sensor arm.

It still comes down to instructing the customer on how the machine needs to be shut down; panel power first until display is blank, then the main power on left side of copier.

We have been replacing the upper fuser bearings and lubricating according to TB if the rollers still have life. If they are close to their 120K rated life then we replace the fuser.
