    MX 6240n Fuser rebuild

We only have a couple of these out in the field. I have rebuilt one already with the maint kits and all went well. I am doing another one now and I find the foam roller that goes inside the belt has only a gear on one side where the roller I took out has a gear on both ends. I dont know if the wrong roller was in the kit or if they dont use the other gear anymore. The kit was a MX 750 hk with the one gear not there the belt unit would be driven by the pressure roller like a hp printer fuser. At this point I just dont know if this roller is right or not.

i should have both gears so maybe the one they sent you was missing it or it could be the wrong part.

The gear was removed, due to excessive force applied to the belt assembly.

Also, if you are working on these units you don't need to completely take them apart to get to everything. The belt assembly can be removed with 6 screws (after you unplug everything, and remove the pressure roller).

Here is video from Sharp on taking the unit apart: https://we.tl/wKSjiXwZm0 (100mb).

I ran into that issue on a different sharp model and they removed that gear as it is no longer necessary

I dont work work on a lot of sharp these days so someone may correct me but on a lot of sharp kit now just order the complete fuser via the handy guide part number as it's cheaper than the parts guide & the difference in rebuilding one & fitting a new one is about the same.

We only do sharp. It really depends on the model, age, mileage, and customer volume. In most cases if you know what you're doing it's cheaper to rebuild.

Prices are different here I guess. It costs much less to buy the rebuild kit, and we have customers in service plans so we don't make more money doing more calls in a day.

I agree it cost less for the fuser pm kits but with the time spent rebuilding it you lose the savings when you buy off the handy guide. Why the price difference between the guide & parts manual? Not a clue.

when I worked predominantly on sharp I managed 3-4 calls s day maximum now with a mixed bag its 5-6 including the odd sharp. Doing sharp fusers ment less calls done (along with constant vacuuming of the drum units) & I don't believe 3 calls a day is really cost effective for a service department.

The manual has a pretty good breakdown of this fuser. Probably too late now but I would check there for this extra gear. I have done this one more than a few times and have not seen this mysterious extra gear personally. We rebuild in shop and put the unit in as a whole.
