    MX 363n contract inspection

As I usually don't bother with sharps, I find myself getting ready to do an inspection on one.
The sales guy put a contract on it for 1.1 cents/cpy not sure what he included.
I have to do an inspection to see what it needs. As I am not familiar with the sharps I am in need
    of some advice.
It has been under service with another company but the customer is losing faith in them.
The machine is said to running ok right now.

What should I be looking for? Anything special to look for?

I am going to look for the manual next so I can look up
    the PM info.

Any advice or comments on this model would help.

    Thanks

I do have a lot of them on the road, and i have to say that they are quite easy to work on and reliable,as long as you do the maintenance in time there should be no prob.

I have a good handful of this series out there, the only issues I've had in the past, have been with the charge grid getting dirty causing lines, they seem to have a developer/toner misting issue, but nothing crazy to where you will see it everyday/week, or even month. Also clean the sensor below the transfer roller well. For the most part they go from PM to PM (200k I believe)

I have many on the field. Great copier, no goofy or inherent design flaws like Canon seems to churn out one after the other
When I started servicing copiers they used toaster ovens for fusers.....I'm old

Sharps have a cleaner for the mcu's (Main Charge Grid) Its really important to use them, It's actually something the consumer is supposed to do but since they cant even wipe or clean off their glass it's up to you to teach them. In black n white its usually built into the charge grid but in color its usually a bright green wand. They are just a tiny rubber roller that rolls back n forth over the saw-tooth inside of the mcu. It can and does clear up and prevent lines.

            Edit-
Ps. Its not on all models, but appears more often than not.

I love these Machines! They have no inherent flaws, work in dirty environments and just need standard maintenance every 200-300k.

In dusty environments they do develop a nasty squeal in the paper tray drive area. The bushings can be cleaned though and it isn't that big a job to repair.

It's not often that I've heard a lot of good comments on a Sharp machine. May be I need to look into these.

                Thanks for the positive feedback

Don't forget to print Sim 22-6 and keep it on record. Really easy to see PM counters.
Rollers 100k, super easy to replace. Unlike those pieces of crap over at Konika Minolta.
                    Fuser, Drum, Dev at 200k.
Fuser is an easy rebuild. 30 min max with web.
                    Process unit 5 minute rebuild.
                    Dev is also 5 minutes.

Clean the PS roller, and transport rollers at every visit.

                    Good contract, very profitable.

Sounds to good to be true. How's the cost of parts and how does it do with aftermarket toner?
Can someone make money at $0.015/click?

Just to give you an idea. (this is napkin math, take with salt.)
                          Parts are cheap...
                          250$ for fuser unit
                          100$ for DV unit
                          50$ for drum unit

                          Basic maintenance cost...
                          35$ blade
                          40$ Drum (NA)
                          50$ DV
                          15$ Spill blade
                          10$x2 Drum and DV blades
                          20$ other doodads
                          total- 180$

If the machine is in a terrible location you can expect to change a MFP or PCU PWB at least once in it's life.
                          MFP- About 300$
                          PCU- About 130$
You can see the boards are very reasonable, and you can also get core credit for the old board.

We might spend about 50-300$ in labor per maintenance cycle.
200k maintenance cycle = 3$k at .015 per tick. Bottom line, there is a very good chance of profit.

Don't go with the knock off toner. The sharp toner for these machines are worth the extra few $$$

                              SwisSeV,
What kind of problems have you seen with knockoff toner?
Background, poor solids, light copy, toner error codes?
Thanks for all the great comments. I am going to look into
                              getting these machines.
