You will need access to sharp service to download the firmware and watermark.

Is the Watermark file available only for Sharp tech or can be downloaded somewhere?

I really just want to take the damn drives out of the devices at the customers office and give it to them. that way I am out of the picture.

just a little nervous because I don't know Sharps that well and was not sure if they have firmware on the HDD. I know some manufactures do include firmware on the drives and some white list makes and models of drives in NVRAM. Didn't know if Sharp did that with the drives they use.

    Thanks again
Any like hard drive will work. If it is brand new Sharp OS will format it. If used in a previous Sharp either delete partitions before install or run reformat sim. You will have to install watermark and any embedded user manual.

Check out Hy-tec they have HDD for mxm623n 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch either one is only 129.00. If you can order from Sharp the 2.5 hdd is 189.00

you will also need to do a firmware update and watermark update after installing the drive.

It needs to be a new unused hdd(they are unformatted) when installed into the mfp it will be formatted and partioned by the copier. Or if you have another hdd from a 623/723. You mentioned this was a medical facility, by HIPPA rules the HDD needs to be sanitized or destroyed and a certificate is to be provided specifying the erasure or destruction . So it I s better for your dealership to have the customer buy new hdds for the mfp's and you give them the old ones.
also Hytec board repair offers a HDD erasure program. Reformatting a hdd does not get rid of all the data, the only true method is a DOD overwrite or total destruction of HDD.

below is what happenend in 2010 when 60 minutes did a story about copiers and what was on the hdd when returned to the leasing company.

HHS Settles with Health Plan in Photocopier Breach Case

Under a settlement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Affinity Health Plan, Inc. will settle potential violations of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules for $1,215,780. OCR’s investigation indicated that Affinity impermissibly disclosed the protected health information of up to 344,579 individuals when it returned multiple photocopiers to a leasing agent without erasing the data contained on the copier hard drives. In addition, the investigation revealed that Affinity failed to incorporate the electronic protected health information stored in copier’s hard drives in its analysis of risks and vulnerabilities as required by the Security Rule, and failed to implement policies and procedures when returning the hard drives to its leasing agents.s s .

    Thanks for the reply

So if I were to just remove the HDD and replace with a different one of similar size, the device will still work? no firmware residing on the HDD?

And if I do surrender the drive. I do intend to charge them.

    Thanks

I usually will reformat the HDD and then send 10 test prints then reformat again.

I they want the HDD, make them pay retail price from Sharp.

    It is nothing but paranoia.
It is the same as a computer. Reformat, reload OS then reformat again.
Information will be overwritten then removed.

    Format HDD for Sharp MX-M623N

    Greetings all

Hope someone can assist with this one. Have a few of these models that are coming in from a health clinic but the manager wants either the proof that we ran a security format on the devices HDD or take them out and hand the HDD to them.

question is. If I remove the HDD and replace with another one, will the machine still work? Or is there a way to do a security wipe (Data overwrite) of the HDD.

    Thanks in advance for assisting
