Re: Replacing drum and developer on MX5001N

Most of your adjustments will be located in section 6 of the service manual. There are more simulations in order to do the calibration properly. The first simulation you should run after developer replacement should be the 25-2 but leave the right door open, enter simulation 25-2 close door and execute, wait for simulation to finish ca x 2, and developer calibration is done. However, that is just the beginning.
If the foam on the drum unit frame is not mushy and falling apart and the lower seal is not warped you can use reuse it, replace mylar if needed, other wise it will dust in the MFP.

Also, to do the calibration properly after drum and developer replacement (to have correct consistent colors, half tones and blacks) you will need the calibration jig. Part # UKOG-0318FCZZ for sim 44-13. And 24lb Hammermill 11 X17 paper for Sim 46-74. If these items are not used... your colors, half tones and blacks will not be to specs.
Basically, follow the procedure in the service manual but you need the proper tools.

To replace the whole unit would be easier for sure, may not be cost effective though. If you change the drom you also will need to get a charge kit which has the drum blade and a new charger. It is MX-310MK I believe.

replace the entire drum unit and the developer...clean the machine well... try running simulation:

        24-4
        -5
        -7
        25-2
        50-22
        44-2
        -6
        -27
        -26
        46-74
        64-5

The only thing that might have been damaged is the Toner Density Sensor.

How likely do you think this has happened? 50% or am I 100% screwed? How do I know it its damaged?

In my 20+ years, vacuuming DV units, I have not had a toner sensor fail (I might have been lucky).
There is probably a way to check with a multimeter, like a thermistor, but I'm not sure - Blackcat to the rescue!
