Sharp M237 Tray 2 wont lift

Sharp AR-M237 Tray 2 makes the popping noise at the top of the lift and never quite makes it. Broken teeth on lift gear? I am trying to figure out from the parts manual which one it will be without tearing the machine apart. Any help appreciated. Yes, I know it is an oldie and should be retired.

I think there is a gear (that is in the shape of a paper fan) on the back of the cassette...you'll probably find a broken tooth on it...(if my memory serves me correctly)...

I haven't seen that gear break, but the gear in the drive unit is usually the cause of that popping noise - it can be ordered separately (sorry, I don't have a part number).

Would it be a gear in this assembly causing the popping noise? CDAIU0024RS54 I could see it jumping when it was making the noise. If I remember right, switching the cassettes made no difference.

        Thanks.
