    [Error Code] H4-02 on MX-3060/MX-6070/MX-5070

We are getting H4-02 errors on brand new machines.

    Anybody else has these?

This is our 3rd machine this month that is getting these errors.

One we ended up swapping for an other machine because we couldnt get it to work. (MX-6070)
Second one fuser change fixed it. (MX-5070)
Third one just happened so i'm fixing it today. (MX-3060)

Is this a manufacturing error in the fusing units? Or something else?

Do these errors happen intermittently with the machine running ok in between? I had this on the first 3070s we put out and it turned out to be a firmware issue related to the walk-up sensor. If you disable the sensor it should stop coding (if it's the same issue). I believe there was an update that supposedly fixed it, but we never bothered to turn the sensors back on to find out if it actually did.

Hi i used to work on these when i was in the uk . There is a firmware for this error also there is a modification on a set of thermistors .

I also found that for some strange reason in system settings device settings the plain paper setting was set to 90g to 120g . We was told from sharp if this was set and 80g paper was used that the paper didnt take the heat way causing the fault .

Try them the firmware and thermister mod available on sharps techweb .

As i said, machines have the latest firmware (Firmware Version 6.00.Z1)

Thermistor is not the problem, this has been swapped. Whole fuser has been swapped with other machine.

My impression is that the PCU PWBs are crappy...

I have in the past once had a faulty fuser lamp pwb . But I just looked at my tickets ive had with sharp regarding this . Every time the fuser is removed you have to calibrate the thermister to the machine pcu pwb as it cant remember the values . Only sharp i know to have this problem .

I am right i presuming you have reset the error in simulation 14

This is a quote from sharp

We have spoken to the factory regarding this issue and here is some information. As you know from the training course we speak about having to remove the fuser unit when replacing the PCU pwb. This is down to calibrating the thermistors to the PCU pwb. So when a new fuser is fitted to a machine the same procedure should be carried out also.

Please can you return to the machine and remove the fusing unit and turn on the machine with covers closed. Wait until you get the message to install the fuser unit, then turn off the machine and re-install the fuser, this should re-calibrate the PCU to the thermistors.

After that all i can suggest is sharp helpline favoite of PCU pwb .

Before you replace the fuser or put it back on the machine after a rebuild (or even take it out of the machine) you should (dont' quote me on this exactly) reboot the machine without the fuser in with the covers shut and wait for the message 'install fuser unit' install the fuser unit and reboot again. For some reason these machines remember the settings of the fuser unit (not sure what). Usually the thermistor says its at the correct temp the triac does its job and cuts power to the lamps from the AC and jobs a done but not sure what sharp have done this time.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

There was a tech pub about thermistats being to close to Belt. New housing available that moves them slightly back. Here you go.MFP-TB-1677

                            Had this issue. MFP-TB-1688:

                            Go into sim 55-1
                            SW 22
Data 8 change setting from 0 to 1.

                            Good luck!

I would make sure you have a power filter on it and update to latest firmware 7.60. I have also done the dip switch thing and seems to also work but these other 2 items will ensure the machine works properly over its life. other thing to check is wall voltage. machine must not EVER go below 110v for US and should be on a dedicated outlet
