    MX2640 DE14 Error

    Hiya ,

After stripping down to refurb a MXDE14 on a MX2640 when the base is connected it says for trays 3 and 4 , please open tray and add paper , even when full. The trays do not lift up at all.

I have had this before but for the life of me cant remember what it was.

    Any advice welcome...

    Thanks

Does the machine have any Trouble codes? Like a U6-xx code? If so, try Sim 15 to cancel any paper lift problems. If that doesn't work, try reseating the connectors. Otherwise, you may be looking at replacing a board on the machine. Make sure the Trays are not lifting at all. If they are, check the sensors to be sure they are detecting paper.

I've had similar problems with a couple of 3140's. Tried sensors, Boards, FW... ended up doing a complete reset (Delete all personal information under Security settings). That seemed to fix it... No real idea why though It might be that the machines in question had been cloned with data from a 3110, but the evidence is not conclusive.

Had this problem a month ago, replacing ALL the sensors in the paper feed assemblies fixed the issue.

These machines and options are loaded with what I affectionately call the "time bomb sensors"; just a matter of time before they go. You can go into SIM mode and test the individual sensors in the feed heads and size / lift section.
