    Email alerts not being sent

    Hi all.

We have 2 machines in our office that are not sending email alerts out. (Testing using the send now option) I have tried different SMTP servers and and also different email addresses to send to. I don't get any errors. Also the machine will scan to the addresses with no issue.
It's a strange one. Any ideas?

Just to make sure I understand.....

You can scan a doc to "fred@myco.com" but you can't send a status message to "fred@myco.com"?

Make sure you type the email address and not copy and paste. I've seen on occasion when doing a copy/paste, the email will not work ...... I'm guessing because it's copying some unseen formatting character.

You will not see the "Status report" being sent in the job log, you have to go to the system log..... Example 192.168.0.240/service_testpage.html password "service"

Look at syslog.......a status send message looks like this.......

      <157>OCT 17 10:30:09 2018 SCA6BAF8 4515104700:0000155c Web - (admin) IP[192.168.0.212] /email_status.html

      <31>OCT 17 10:30:16 2018 SCA6BAF8 4515104700:0000155e smtp connect req : server="smtp.gmail.com:587".

Thanks for that in depth reply. Yes it will scan to the address but not alert to it. I will try typing the address rather than copying it. Also I did check the syslog and saw that error 501 was generated. This indicates an incorrect email address or bad syntax. However, I did enter the reply email address as the MCs name and that sent an email alert but scans went to junk.

I will try typing it in manually in the morning.

Yes I tried entering the names in manually but made no difference, the one thing I did notice when putting the reply to email address in the machines name, that it sent alerts and to my Hotmail account, it said "on behalf of", that's the only way I can get this machine to scan and alert to my email address.
The machines are a mx2610 and a mx4112, I am about to set up an Mx2630 (new mc) and see what we get.

Re: Email alerts not being sent

              Update

I think i may have solved it!!!

A few months back we had a lot of scan to emails going to spam folder or not at all when using office 365 or gmail, so to get around that we put <> around the reply to email address and that solved the problem of emails not working/going to spam.

A few months later we are not getting email alerts (toner low, pm calls) due to the <> around the reply to address.

What we have being doing (which now i know is incorrect) is going to "Network settings - Services settings - smtp settings - reply to email address (and putting the <> brackets here around the mail reply to address) where i should be leaving the brackets off.

However, In Sharp copiers there is another place to put the reply to address which is:system settings - image send settings - scan settings reply email address (now put the brackets<> around email address)

This seems to send scans to my inbox (not junk) and sent email alerts as well to my inbox. i Guess due to the brackets the sys log showed a 501 error from the smtp server. (You dont have to do any of this on the latest machines, 3060 etc)
