I have a 5141 where the shutters on color don't open all the way and Black does, tried cleaning and lubricating with no luck, bad solenoid maybe? Thanks in advance.

Re: MX-5141 shutter issue
It could very well be a bad solenoid. I have seen on these where developer and toner get spilled in the rear of the machine. I would remove the primary transfer belt and all of the developer and drum units. Then first, by hand, move the shutters to see if they are binding on anything. Then run them in simulation mode with the door interlock cheated. Make sure there is not anything preventing shutter movement.
Good luck! -
Re: MX-5141 shutter issue
Good advice form dsmith. In addition, try removing the shutter assembly as it's only one screw allowing you to clean more effectively around the rear of the process area to eliminate any debris preventing shutter action. On previous copiers, Sharp actually advised removing the shutter altogether as an option too. Not ideal obviously as they're there to prevent toner etc getting to the laser but this could get you out of a hole short term.
Good luckComment

Re: MX-5141 shutter issue
Had to clean a few of these in the past.
Toner cloggs the clutch-movement.
Its begind the LSU-unit if i'm not mistaking.
If you disassemble the clutch and clean it, put it back, all should be fine.
Vacuum cleaner comes in handy for this oneComment

Re: MX-5141 shutter issue
There is no clutch. Electromagnetic solenoid and developer is iron it gets into the solenoid.Comment
