Sharp MX3640 Tray One Not Recognizing Paper

Tray One Not Recognizing Paper after tray is filled and closed. Change Sensor that relates to that, still will not recognize the paper in tray. Changed out Drive PWB Board - still no go.

I thought of changing out that unit but thought I reach out with any thoughts. Thanks!

please control the vertical detect holder ( LHLDZ1463FCZ1 ) and pins behind.
Parts manual Section 61 No. 73
If there is an error, display say: please insert paper

dont have a 3640 here but on my 3610 the top tray is not a smart tray, tray 2 is a smart tray. if you pull both out are they the same on bottom?

Not sure. Are you talking about the screw at the end of the Tray? Not sure what you are referring to by Smart Tray.

Not sure. Are you talking about the screw at the end of the Tray? Not sure what you are referring to by Smart Tray.

Smart Tray refers to automatic size/orientation detection. Tray one must be told what's loaded while tray 2 recognizes.

Smart trays have a gear thing kinda shaped like an icecream cone that rides the guides to tell the tray whats in it, dumb trays do not and have to be programmed. on mine up front smart piece on bottom of tray is black.

in my mind i thought you ment size of paper not constant paper empty.

Tried this - It unfortunately didn't - I am off to the PCU PWB. It is the only thing that hasn't been changed. Working it with a meter I was told is difficult and probably wouldn't give an accurate call.

I'll let you know the outcome.

We have one doing the same thing and have changed the sensor and tray holding clip, to no avail and still having the same issue. Like you we were thinking the PCU PWB also, but have not got around to that, so it is on the back burner for now.

Change the PCU BWB - Did nothing. I am looking at changing the Paper Feed in Tray One. It's either that or change the machine. I'll let you know.

My coworker finally found a solution to our problem of not recognizing the paper tray. The paper cassette tray was not always connecting to the tray detect sensor in the back of the machine. By adding an extra piece of thin plastic to the back of the tray it would now engages the sensor fully.

Thanks for the update. I ended up changing out the Unit. The system is at an early lease and I thought it might be more prudent to change out the Unit. I could have had the Unit out 10 times trying different fixes and never gotten to a fix.
