    network trouble mx5071

    Has anyone had the following problem...

    We had an old mx2600 with a customer, swapped it for a mx5071...and then the problems began.

    If you ping the machine, it gets regular time-outs.

    Scanning doestn work...but works fine 2 minutes later.
    Printer same problem.

    Restarten the machine seems to solve matters for a while.

    Tested for conflicting IPadresses, tested ping with my laptop on same switch.

    Timeouts keep happening...untill i disconnect the uplink to the rest of the network.

    We had the same kind of problems with some smaller printers on this network. Disabling Gigabit has solved the timeouts on these printers and we've had no troubles since.

    I could disable gigabit on the sharp, but i'd just like to find out what the problem is

    To change the NIC speed:
    Enter Simulation 55-03 and select Soft Switch 6.
    Set SW6-1 through SW6-4 to match the network speed.
    The Gigabit speed setting in SW6 would appear as shown below:
    SW No. : 6
    DATA :
    1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0
    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
    SW6-1 Auto-Negotiation
    0 = Enabled
    1 = Disabled

    SW6-2: Link Speed (when Auto-Negotiation is Disabled)
    0 = 100Base TX
    1 = 10Base T
    SW6-3: Duplex Mode (when Auto-Negotiation is Disabled)
    0 = Full
    1 = Half
    SW6-4: Gigabit Speed (when Auto-Negotiation is Disabled)
    0 = 100 Base TX
    1 = 1000 Base T

      Is the 5071 using the same IP address as the old 2600?

      Let the 5071 boot up with DHCP enabled and see if you have same problem.

      Was there a reservation on the router for the 2600 MAC address?

        This kind of sounds like you might have an IP Conflict on your network. Someone's smartphone or tablet may be grabbing the IP address the copier is using. Take a look at the IP addresses on some of the computers, and pick one for the copier that's either 100 above or below the last octet in their address. (Example: If the Computer is pulling a 192.168.1.107 address.... assign the address 192.168.1.207 to the copier).

        You'll have to go back and change the ports in everyone's printer driver, but it'll save you callbacks and frustrations.

          Set the machine to dhcp, same problem.

          Printers are installed on printserver, so chaging the port should take me like 2 minutes...

          And i know how to disable gigabit...i just want to solve the problem instead of working around it.

            I don't doubt you tested for IP conflicts.... I'm just speaking from personal experience. I had a location where I would get calls a couple of times per week for "Can't print...Have to reboot." I would show up...ping the network...test everything and find zero issues, only to get sent back 2-3 days later for the same problem.

            It turned out that whenever one of their delivery guys came into the office, his iPhone grabbed the copiers IP address... once he left, the problem would go away. That's why I always try to grab an address that's WELL outside the DHCP range.... and even then you can't account for every random iPad/Smartphone that connects to their network.

            It wasn't a dig against you....I'm just trying to help. I spent close to 2 MONTHS fighting this issue myself, and I was trying to save you a little frustration.

              I've seen some machines be affected by POE.

              Put a cheap hub between machine and network, this will knock out the POE before it gets to machine.

              See if that helps.
