    64bit server issue

Hi Guys,my client has upgraded their server from 32bit to 64bit, and want to load the 64bit driver for their mx2300. they are using windows 2003.When they do, they get a Spooler SubSystem App Error and they printer does not install. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, when i do finally get it installed, what do i need to do to get the clients to share from the server, as they will be 32bit? Help!

64 bit server, 32 bit client...

This worked on a 2008 64 bit installation so I don't guarantee it will be the same for 2003 64 bit. Load the 64 bit driver on the server and share it out. Don't bother installing the "additional" 32 bit driver. From the client PC, begin the add printer wizard. Add a network printer. When you get to the window that asks for the driver, click have disk and browse to the the 32 bit driver download. If that doesn't work, try installing the printer on the client as a "local" printer first. Then, after the correct 32 bit driver is installed, add the printer again as a "network" printer pointing to the server share. After a test page prints, you can delete the local printer. Good luck.

      64 bit issue

Strange one really. I got into him and he informed me of a previous error saying "Driver not compatable". Obviously he tried loading an incorrect driver. I had instructed him to go on line and get the correct driver. (I pointed him to it). This then gave the "Spooler Subsystem error". I got another "latest" driver and this almost loaded, but again, "Spooler error". I asked him to re-start the server(he wasn't happy), and after this i carried out a fresh install. It worked fine! I think the initial errors, and drivers where causing a continuing problem. The re-start could have unblocked this. Not too sure, but it worked. Thanks for your help.

        Reboot

No problem. I'm glad you got that one behind you. It's amazing how many times a simple reboot will fix strange problems. No one likes to have to reboot a server, especially during business hours but hey, you have to do whatever it takes. As a last ditch effort before rebooting the server when I've run into strange print problems, I've restarted the "Print Spooler" in the services.msc window. Maybe you tried that but I thought I'd throw that in just to cover all the bases. How's the job market in Ireland? My grandfather on my dad's side came to the US directly from Ireland. Don't ask me what part, I have no idea.

          64 bit error

Again, thanks for your help. Yeah, i did stop and restart the print spooler, but this didn't really help, so the last resort was rebooting the server. Job market is getting tight over here. The global recesssion is really hitting hard. A number of high profile multi-nationals are pulling out their manufacturing plants, such as Dell, and moving to less costly countries, such as Poland. How are things over there? You should look into your grandfathers roots. It could be interesting.
