    Sharp MX-5141N firmware update

Trying to update Sharp MX-5141N firmware. SD card failed and no backup. I have file vrg2_MAIN_0300R2.sfu and vrg2_[ICUM]0400R200.sfu on the root of a USB stick. I put in a new SD card and the USB stick in the front of the copier. I have UPDATE DIP-SW on the MFP PWB set to on and SB boot set to on. When I power on the copier all I get is continuous startup cycling and never the CN update mode on the screen. Machine powers on and cycles through startup and then powers down and starts the whole process again. When I set the SB boot DIP to off, all I get is a blinking power indicator. Machine will not boot with any combination. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you buy the SD card from Sharp?

The SD card must have basic data on it when installed.

If you put a blank SD card in the copier it will not work.

Ok, I thought it would build the SD card from the the file on the USB. I have done this with other brands of copiers and printers. I just read in the service manual this morning "If an error occurs in the boot program, this method cannot beused. In such a case, the SD card must be replaced with a new one having the normal boot program". Do you know where I can buy a new Sharp SD card with the firmware for this model? Or where I can get an SC card that has been copied from an existing machine? Thank You.

Only place I know of is Sharp.

You can ask in the firmware request area of copytechnet if anyone may have the files you need.

        I do not have them.

Ok thank you for your help! I really appreciate it. I am new to the forum - I looked, but I don't see a specific section for firmware request. When I did a search for firmware, everyone had posted requests in the technical section for their copier make. Isn't this the section that I am in?

            Yes, I was mistaken.

You are in the right place.

I would start a new thread asking for the files needed for the SD card

there is no special section/forum for firmware requests.

If you have a working MX-5141, a computer running Linux that has an SD card reader, and a bag of peanut M&Ms, you could use Linux terminal commands to copy the good SD card image, then copy it to an off the shelf SD card. Save shipping time and a couple hundy over buying Sharp SD card. Could possibly be done without the M&Ms, but I've never tried it.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to another MX-5141. My challenge is that I am not a Sharp Tech - so I don't have access to buying the SD card. I am not concerned with spending the money for a Sharp SD card, just need to get one. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you for the OEM part#. The copier is missing the hard drive as well. If I get the SD card, will I be able to boot up copier and then see an error message for missing hard drive. Or will the machine not boot up at all without hard drive? Thanks for any help

if the HDD is missing its a 320GB 2.5 in, you can go up in size but not down.
Is the sd card currently installed blue with a generic white sticker on it?
Also removing and reseating the controller assy, on this model can be tricky also.
Lots of weird stuff, if the controller isnt seated correctly.

Defective Hdd give a e7-03 error, after boot.
Ok, thats what I thought. I buddy of mine gave me a scandisk sd card with supposedly the linux boot and a file called vrg2_MAIN_0300R2.sfu on a usb. I put the sd card in, update DIP set to on and copier would go through startup sequence and then power down and then just keep repeating the same cycle. Nothing ever came up on the screen to update the firmware. He claims it is because there is no Sharp partition on a 320 GB hard drive I put in there. Service manual says screen will come up and I will see the error you stated above. I am just trying to get some clarity on the exact procedure, because his method did not work.
