    MX 4501 N: H3-04 Message?

    Hello folks!
Our Sharp MX4501N Printer had the message H3-04 displayed when we came into the office this morning. Does anyone know what this message means?
The printer is on but we cannot print to it. The accompanying message says to call a service technician, but they may not make it out here today and we're in a fix without this machine. Please help! Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chris

Chris, this code indicates an abnormally high fuser temperature. It's best to wait for a tech to clear code and test the fuser to see why the code came up.

      Thank you!
Well, that explains the faint smell of burning paper this morning.

The printer repair guy just left. I'm paraphrasing what he told me:

The Sharp MX4501N was displaying the error: H3-04. This does mean that the printer was reading an above average temperature for the fuser, for some reason.

He said that in his experience, 90% of the time, this is due to power surges/spikes and not an actual incident of the fuser over heating. A good surge protector isn't normally enough and he recommended that we look around for a cheap UPS to condition the power.

Other things that can cause a higher than average reading of the fuser can be caused by paper jams, where a piece or pieces of the paper are lodges inside, insulating the fuser and restricting air flow to the internal compnents. Printing 15-25 blank sheets through the copier can usually dislodge these. If not, call for assistance.

In order to clear the error code (H3-04) from possible powewr surges/pikes, I was given the following code: #P, *, C, 1,4 PRINT
This will remove most of the codes restricting printing to the copier, however, should the code reappear, contact customer service and arrange for a visit from the local repair person.

I hope this helps anyone else who may run in to the same problem.

There is also an improved part "thermistor" in a sharp tech bullitin. This was to prevent intermitent fuser codes and a distortion issue.
