    MX-4101 won't recognize trays 3 & 4

I have a customer who is mainly a Ricoh man. He has 1 Sharp MX-4101 that doesn't recognize tray 3 or 4. He claims it does not display those tray on op-panel or the computers, although it does show them on the computer setup as options. I do not have any knowledge on Sharps at all. My first guess is that it is a connector issue. They are a couple hours out so any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

May be that the optional paper tray cabinet is not plugged into the main machine. Did he say if they ever showed?

Turn off copier, main switch behind front door.
On the lower-center-rear is a small panel with one screw. Remove screw and panel, check one white connector is plugged in good!
If it is, unplug and make sure there are no bent pins.
These are (machine off first) plug and play.

      Good luck!

Thanks. That's where I directed him to look. They just got it from another National Park so he doesn't know its history.

Definitely check the desk connector first.
Have a look in Sim 22-10 and see if the MXDEX9 is listed as an installed option. If it's not, the desk unit controller board has gone bad. I've had this a few times. There is a single red LED on the desk controller board in normal conditions. If that LED is OFF, and you have no MXDEX9 listed in the installed options display, you'll need a new desk controller board.
