Forgetting about the customer printing and coffee-ing for now, how do test prints look? Sim 64-5 pattern 4 for example?
If ok, how about 67-25 calibration page? How does it look?

And the 67-25 printout for print calibration confirmation?

And the 46-21 printout for copy calibration confirmation?

Internals and prints are fine so you are looking at a CCD, scanner board type issue.
Go into service mode and check the gain level of the CCD. If it is double digits, that is the most likely cause.
Is the result the same through the document feeder and from the platen glass?

You've got a DSPF on that model. Place a good quality internal test print in the DSPF face-down, and perform a double-sided copy. That way you'll be testing the CCD/Optics/Control Board in the DSPF and isolate the issue to the Scanner CCD/Optics.
Make sure you also run a 63-05 to reset the scanner adjustment values, and use the SIT Chart in 63-03 if you have it available.
Reposition all harnesses from the scanner to the MFP Board.

Yep DF and platen glass...may be different outcome depending. Reading and understanding manuals done well โœ…

Had something similar to this on an MX-5070N. After doing all of the above steps including changing out a lot of boards our tech rep finally suggested doing an end of lease procedure and voila everything was perfect. Something to try before you order a $500 board.

                Good luck
