something off in his Microsoft email account"..... is this an Office 365 account? If so make sure you have newest firmware for TLS v1.2 support, which is required to send through Office 365

In "admin center" for 365, check the account being used for scanning.

Ensure the "Authenticated SMTP" is selected

Just be aware what mansart has suggested can take 8 hours to update.

When Gmail or google mail is used as a third party mail service use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
