Dont think that you can do it actually.
Pretty sure the serial number is stored on the PCU eprom chip. This is written to the eprom in the factory.
If you can find a way, let me know as well.
If you are trying to enable some add on hardware configuration using the product code that you get from Sharp and you just made a mistake with the serial number when you went to get the product code then you can contact Sharp and have it re-issued. If you are trying to circumvent this by changing the serial number to match your product code, good luck.
I would like to know also. Have heard of two different tales that it could be done but haven't found out how. I deal with the used imagistics rebadges and we get machines in with different internal serial numbers than the ones on the outside and also see them with xxx's rather than 000's after the serial number from internal prints. this would be worth dollars to me if it would let me match serial numbers to products code.
Sim 86-1 will change your current serial number but not allow you to input a new number. Sharp reps at school said the only way to actually restore the serial number was to send the eeprom into Sharp and they would re-write it.

Sharp doesn't give out that information that I am aware of. The only way to re-write the eeprom is to remove it from the board and send it into Sharp with all of the appropriate purchasing information, serial number, etc. Sorry, I can't be more helpful than that as I have never had this happen to one of our machines.
It can be done, not sure how, We have taken over service on several machines from a large dealer and all the sr# on dragons, tigers, and jupiter machines are the same. Only the machines with scanning are changed. We showed Sharp but dont think they are to intrested in going after a big dealer.

Thank you very much。 firmware can be changed。Since I changed m455u。Only an upgrade。But now I want to upgrade, but data transmission is not passed。Who can give me the upgrade files(ar or im)。I want to try again。 thanks。
I believe you can, it would be in special codes and I believe you have to input it using hexidecimals. It has been quite a few years since I have seen it done.
This model has 3 different firmware files and depending on which
printer expansion kit you are using will tell you which firmware file
to use.
if you flash the machine with the wrong firmware file you will loose the ability to print and from what I've seen there is no going back.
I found this one out the hard way and had to replace the printer expansion kit.
There are also different firmware files that have to be used if you have the security kit installed so you have to be certain you have the right firmware file before you flash the machine.
