Sharp MX M3550 pulling developer and scraping drum on outboard (front side)

Hello, i hope someone can offer some assistance.
this is a machine with under 600k on it. it has always gotten the full OEM part replacements on time at every maintenance interval.
about a 100K ago, it was starting to scrape the outboard end of the drum, before the 280K interval.
then it started getting gray background and the scraping of the drum. i replaced the drum, the drum frame assembly, blade etc. in a short time it kept pulling developer, and prints became light. went back and replaced the developer and developer unit, now the drum already had a circumferential scratch near the end, but i didn't have one with me. and it had only been in a few weeks.

the copies were immediately dark and nice, but the gray band across the bottom of prints still showed up.
i rotated the round drum end cap that should come with the frame, and it was immediately better and no band or pulling.
I ordered a new cap, but that was Friday. today it is already showing that gray band on the bottom of prints.

so, it has all new drum frame, drum, charger, blades, developer and developer unit.
the recent at 280K cycle transfer roller kit, and the recent new fuser.

    i am just beside myself.

has anyone seen this issue, and can you possible offer me any help and advice please??

    thank you very much.

AT this stage it seems that you have done everything correctly, the only other thing I would suggest is to check the transfer belt and make sure that everything is seated properly under the belt.

      Hello, thank you.
Actually this is a mono chrome with a transfer roller. But I was also thinking, maybe there was something out of spec on the one I installed? And it's got something to close to the drum??
They have a mx m3551 next to it, but from past experience, I never like to test with the customers machines as it can cause an issue on that one as well.

With the transfer kit, It's the roller and discharge strip , and maybe something isn't right . but I looked at them close and nothing looks wrong.

And like your name handle, this customer isn't close.
      Darn it.

We have had this happen on many of these machines, you can do one of two things, Replace the milar and pads on the drum unit itself, or Replace the drum unit, we often just replace the drum unit every two drum changes now just to prevent this problem from reoccurring after dumping so many developers from these.

Its much easier to replace the whole unit and go on as they are not that expensive.

The other suggestion I have is to check the developer unit and make sure the cover is seated correctly. I have had this happen to me and I was the one who put it back together and can only blame myself.

            thankks guys.
the drum unit and developer units were both just replaced for this, and the drum, charger, blade etc. one thing i hadn't done since this all happened, is to replace the transfer roller. the developer only had 68K on it, the drum, blades, and charger had 63K and the transfer roller kit 96K.

i have ordered another drum, and blade and transfer kit and will replace those. the drum end cap stopper CSFTP3805FC01 wont be delivered before i get all the way back out there, but buying time so i don't have to replace the developer again i hope.

oh, the glorious life of a tech rep... I still love the good days, but the bad still infuriate me to say the least.

            thank you

In your list of items you have replaced, you state you changed the transfer KIT. I have had to change the complete transfer roller unit, If you look in parts guide that has had alot of changes since it came out. I change that out every 2 drum frame changes. This series is bad for DV dumps, pulls
and leaking ends on drum units. Hope this helps.

Hi Dan, yes that's very helpful. I had already been looking to see if the complete unit is sold as a unit.
Having to remove the transfer roller and the plastic collars, is a setup for disaster.
I will check deeper into the parts manual and see what I can come up with.
                Thank you so very much,
                Jim

Don't forget this uses the MX609MC and MX-609CH. There is a tech pub about this. We had problems when the techs were using the older supplies.
Also check the outside edges of the mylar that sits behind the wiper blade and make sure the is a small gap between it and the seals L&R

yes, those are the part numbers i used.
as i said, i went back last week and installed another OEM drum, blade and transfer roller kit. i didn't have the full TR unit with me. but i had looked at the other machine next to it and the parts manual, and the TR roller end collars are installed correctly.

reset counters and a few sims that were here on this site from the past.

                    thank you
