    MX-3071 - prints OK but won't copy/scan

Got called in to a non-functioning Sharp MX-3071 by new customer. Had no display, and only the power button above display & blue light to left of display lit. Figured bad MFPC PWB, right? Especially since some LEDs weren't lit on the MFPC PWB. Swapped customer's board w/ one out of a working MX-3071 that we had. It powered up fine, prints fine, but the scans are screwed up. Off the glass or side 1 (which scans over slit glass) the image is washed out to the point of being barely visible, shifted up & reduced slightly (main scan), reduced a bunch & shifted from the lead edge in the subscan direction. In 2 to 2 mode, the back side is well reproduced, but also reduced & shifted similarly - see attachments.

To make matters worse, when we brought back our MFPC PWB and re-installed it in our machine, we encountered the exact, same scanning issue. Our previously perfect machine is now infected with this problem. Of course, we checked & rechecked all the connectors, especially the ribbon connectors which tend to be fragile, and demand great caution, generally. mSATA & eproms were swapped initially to preserve customer's programming, then swapped back to original spots.

Sharp tech support (as they often do) suggested to simply to buy a new MFPC PWB, and see where that takes us.

    HELP! PLEASE!

    Sounds Like a calibration issue.
The first thing I would do would be to reburn the msata and see what happens, I have had a bunch of these fail or partially causing all sorts of weird and wonderful issues.
I would reset the machine to defaults and do the runup procedure as per the handy guide.
    Good luck.

I agree with odinp. I had one that prints were fine but scanning and copying were messed up. Did an end of lease procedure and everything was golden!!

      Good luck

we just had this on 2 machines also and did a factory reset and everything was back to normal

edit the reset did not affect network settings or address book

          Re: MX-3071 - prints OK but won't copy/scan

Did a "Initialize private data/data in machine" to get back an image that was readable. Problem now is that both OC mode and Side 1 thru SPF are reducing the image in sub-scan direction considerably - trail edge of image would need to magnified another 2cm to reach the edge of the paper. Sim 48, that adjusts this sub-scan magnification was actually missing from the service mode, so had to reflash firmware to bring it back. Moving the default value of 50 to the max 99, only gained me maybe 5mm.

I forget who said "Some things are best left dead". Might have been from a Stephen King novel I read once upon a time.....

This can be adjusted in sim 50-10-A. the default is 102

If you have another machine (exact same model) clone 56-2 and upload it into your bad machine, I've had this fix some pretty funky copy issues.

Sim 50-10 only affects the prints and this unit prints perfectly, edge to edge, good color, good monochrome, correct registration & voids. As I wrote, Sim 48, which will adjust that sub-scan magnification for scan/copy, even when max out to "99" only gets the trail edge of the image 5mm closer to trail edged of paper. Scanner is moving faster than it should.

I tried this and it did alter some of the image registration, but my sub-scan reduction problem still remained. "Something is rotten in the State of Denmark", as Hamlet famously said, but don't know what fixes it.

I'm sure you have had the covers off but I have had several units with funky copy/scan issues that turned out to be a paper clip and staple touching the ADF board.
