I'm having trouble.
First I tired setting it up as a network printer. It is connected to a small switch which is connected to a range extender which is connected by WiFi to a guest network. The printer gets a valid IP address via DHCP. The printer will print from its test menu. I can log in to its IP address in a web browser and print a test page from there, too. I set it up as a network printer in Window 10 using Sharp's PCL6 driver (had to disable driver signature enforcement to install it) but any time I print a test page it just disappears. I see it leave the queue in Windows and the printer starts to do something as if it is going to print but then it doesn't print anything. I've checked the job list at the printer and see nothing logged.
Next, instead of using Sharp's driver I set it up to use a Generic Text Only driver and that actually worked but I expect that would severely limit printing options available in Windows. Then I tried using a Microsoft PCL6 driver and that did not work. Same results as using the Sharp driver. The printer starts to make noise like it is going to do something but stops and does nothing.
Next I tried disconnecting the network cable and connecting a USB cable. Windows detects it and adds a device but seems to not install any drivers for it. I tried adding the printer as a local printer, selecting the USB001 port type of connection, and sending a print job to that but I get an error in the print queue telling me it failed to print.
Is this combination just not workable? The owner told me he got it from a government office and he's sure they were using Win 10. I suspect, if that is true, then they were using some sort of print server and not directly sending print jobs to the printer but I don't know.
