    MX-3070N mSata Replacement & Firmware

    Hey there!

So we have a secondhand Sharp MX-3070N unit that's had issues with bootlooping and error codes E7-80 and E7-90. I've usually been able to clear these in the past, but it's gotten to the point where I'm pretty sure the mSata needs replacing (which I can physically do myself). Sharp support won't assist me at all because this particular model is "dealer only" and won't provide me with the firmware/software I need to put on the new mSata. I'm going to try and transfer the data from the old one to the new one but I won't be able to do so if the old one is corrupted (which I suspect it is). We don't have another similar unit so I don't have another copy of the data. My question is, should I just need a copy of the firmware on the board to install it? Is there anything I'd need to do to replace the part? And where can I get my hands on the files needed without shelling out hundreds for a "service call"?

For context on myself, I'm familiar with standard PC components, builds, and software, but a lot of the copier stuff is lost on me. I've referenced a user and troubleshooting manual and all signs point to replacing the mSata, but if it seems like I'm wrong about that please let me know! I'm pretty tech-savvy but this copier stuff is rather complicated (and it seems unnecessarily so). Any help is greatly appreciated!

You could buy the preprogrammed mSata if you can find it. Part# is VHI0MFP23030C. Sharp has no stock and none expected to arrive. I assume this is because of the chip shortage.

You can also buy a new mSata, again if you can find one. If you pull the one in the copier out it will have the specs printed on it that you need. My notes say "DEMSR-16GD07RC2DC, mSATA solid state drive 16GB" Beware of places online that you can buy these. They will take your money but have no stock. You would need to get ahold a good working image to apply to the new mSata.

You should be able to get this replaced by a dealer for less than $300.00 total.

Thank you! Yeah I tried to take a look but I can't seem to find the pre-programmed one as you suggested. Do you think it should be fine to get one that's the same physical size with a larger capacity? In my head I assume it's like swapping any other SSD.

And I'm sorry, but by "good working image", do you mean a copy of the data?

      Thanks again!

I think any mSata 16GB or larger should work as long as it fits.

Not exactly sure what causes the error codes or the boot issues so we have never copied and old mSata to a new mSata. We keep a library of .imgc files that we have copied from the mSata of either a brand new machine or from a new mSata that Sharp has sent as a part.

You could try to get a new mSata and then use HDD Raw Copy Tool to copy your old mSata and apply it to the new mSata. If the issues carry over then you can just get a clean .imgc and burn it to the mSata.

Firmware version ~6.4 and earlier had a defect where it would write data to the msata constantly, wearing it out prematurely. So I'd update the firmware as well if you can.

UPDATE: I was able to back up the data from the existing one with the RAW HSS Copy Tool and put it on the new one. After the replacement it worked perfectly! I've never seen this machine boot up so fast. I also updated the firmware as recommended. Thanks for the help and advice you guys!

It was a just a bit overkill, but I ended up getting a Kingston 512GB SSD. There wasn't much on Amazon with a smaller capacity that wasn't sketchy anyway and we needed it quickly so I didn't mind paying the $50. Certainly cheaper than the $180 I was quoted just for the pre-loaded 16GB replacement part (and with no guarantee they could find one ).

I can at least repurpose it sometime down the line if this copier ever gets replaced, though I'm sure that won't be for quite a while as now it works perfectly. Getting the damn thing working again (and getting to learn something new in the process) was well worth it for me.

thanks, you were right to buy a branded product, in the past I have bought some cheap but they are not good for this use.

                    Good afternoon,

Is there any chance you have an image of the 3570N? I have a mixture of 3570N, 4070N and 4070V, and 6070V machines that I am trying to support until they're replaced with Kyocera units. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!

                          Hi guys.
I got to go check a mx3050 giving a E7-A7 error. I'm gonna try the CN update, but just in case I would need an image of its msata. I cannot find where I backed up mine (old age?). So if I could get a link to the mx 3050 and mx 3070 msata images that would be great.
                          Th.

                            Hey Folks...

Im now needing to maintain a Sharp Mx-3070n....

Started throwing U2-40 error...was able to take the old mSata and image it (7 hrs!) and burned the image to a new mSata (7 minutes)...all good, no u2-40 code

                            Now I get a U2-60 code.

I'd like to update the watermark software AND the latest firmware. Ive had no luck searching. There were some older FTPs, but long gone.

If anyone has any ideas/help, very much appreciated.

                            Thanks much
                            Adam

Quick update, maybe it helps someone...

(Recap: I was getting a U2-60, which pointed me to a need to update the mSATA watermark...

I had taken the imgc off the old drive, but it took 7 hrs to copy it...I couldnt help but think the old drive was very much 'struggling'

I copied it to a replacement msata... U2-60.)

Did a system update to the current .sfu

The system was then stuck in a boot loop, splash screen, then black...rinse and repeat.

Did a CN recovery from the USB with the .sfu file. Did not work. (returned switch to normal op)

Removed the new mSATA, then re-installed a NEW .imgc image... (thank you)... reinstalled

                              Booted fine.

Entered console, used sim49-1 to update firmware off of the USB

                              Success.

(no need for any watermark fixes. suspect the .sfu addressed all that.)

I am guessing the image from the old msta was corrupted?

Big thanks to many forum contributors- over the years and in many other threads. Very helpful.
