aries sd card automatically goes to emergency update

I haven't yet found in the Sharp literature that addresses this. We recently looked at an mx-3610 that seemed to have hang up and boot problems. We had an aries sd card, & when I installed it, the screen for an emergency update came up. It didn't even have the six boxes that is normally seen, though you could blindly select them. I tried the procedure but it kept saying data error. I returned the original sd card and the machine came up. Fortunately the latest firmware seemed to put things in order.
When I got back to the office, I returned the card to the machine I got it from and booted correctly. Decided to test other aries cards which worked, but one we got from a 3110 came up with the same screen. It had all the boxes however. Same problem getting a data error when we tried the procedure.
I wondered if anyone else experienced this. What could I be doing wrong ? I thought cards from the same series would all work. Hopefully something will turn up with more research. Just wanted to know for future reference. Thank you.

    Are there security kits involved?

No. Not on the machine anyway. Are you saying the security kit is on the sd ? How would you determine what that would be ?

No, security kit is on machine, but if on machine it may limit your ability to move SD card from one machine to another.

I know there are no security kits on the machines involved. Is there a way to recover these if it tells me 'data error' in the emergency mode when I'm out somewhere ? Or are they ready for the trash ?

A MX-3610N should be 10+ years old at this point. The 5 we have left are over 10 years old.

I would talk to them about replacing it.

We make our own SD card. Take a known good card ..copy it with the tool from usbit. Buy new card larger than old one (16gb seems good). Write new card with tool.

Had this exact issue on a MX2640 and it was the PCB board on the side, the one with the SD Card on it. Replaced the board and it worked fine
